Meet TEDDY (PRISON TRAINED)

Registered Name: Heavens Knight
Call Name: Teddy
Birth Date: June 1, 2019
Color: Black, white on chest
Pedigree: (Droopys Cain--Heavens Lilly)
PRISON TRAINED GREYHOUND

Heavens Knight is known around his kennel as Teddy, so that is what we are calling him. He arrived from Ireland on October 17th and is a lovely, easy to handle boy who is sweet, confident and loves attention. He is just 69 lbs, so is a smaller greyhound. Teddy is great with children, very sweet and sociable with them. He is also very gentle, affectionate. and easy going. He is good with larger and medium sized dogs, but we do not recommend him for a home with smaller dogs under about 30 lbs. Teddy still loves to run and was quite happy with his large, fenced yard in his foster home. Teddy is clean and has a shiny black hair coat. His best known characteristic is he loves his food! He can hardly wait for you to put his food dish down before he is gobbling it.--you will not have any problem getting him to eat!.

In Ireland, he raced 35 times with 10 wins, so he was a good racer, especially for a smaller greyhound. His racing record shows that he was a Grade A racer, which is a category reserved for the fastest dogs. In Ireland, 6 dogs are raced at one time rather than 8 dogs as is common in the United States. Fortunately, he had no known racing injuries despite his long career.

We have chosen Teddy for the Greyhound Advancement Center's training program at Central Florida Reception Center in Orlando. While there he will be taught all of his basic commands such as sit and lie down on command, come on recall wait at the door, leave it, go to place (their bed or mat), stay, wait, heel, and a few other commands which their inmate trainer will choose. The greyhounds love being at the prison where they get lots of attention and love, and also lots of treats. The inmate trainers have something important to do while they are incarcerated, and earn certifications as dog trainers which they can then use to help them gain employment when they are released. They especially love the greyhounds for their quiet and gentle natures. You will get a well trained and well socialized dog, and the inmates have the dogs for company. It is a wonderful program for the dogs and the inmate trainers alike.

Teddy's $1,000 adoption fee includes his transportation from Ireland to this country, his neuter, teeth cleaning, vaccines, Bordetella (to protect against kennel cough), microchip, leash and collar, adoption guide, and 10 weeks of specialized training at the prison. Your adoption fee helps us to defray some of the veterinary and care costs we have incurred for Teddy, and will help us to continue our work on behalf of the greyhounds. For more information or to meet this nice boy, please contact us at 813/935-3247 or e-mail us at BAGA@tampabay.rr.com. For more information on greyhounds as pets, the prison training program, or to submit an application to adopt a greyhound, please go to our website: www.bayareagreyhounds.org. Teddy will graduate and be ready to go home with you on January 10, 2025. If you adopt Teddy, you will be able to attend his graduation.
