Meet Tank Dixie
**Please read Tank Dixie's entire profile, which includes a link to the adoption application at the end. Thank you!**
Meet Tank Dixie - a 4 year old, 46 pound, Mountain Cur/Boxer mix boy from Mississippi. This poor boy has been waiting more than TEN MONTHS for his people to find him!!! Just look at that face - how is that possible???
Poor Tank just couldn’t catch a break until our vet stepped in on his behalf. He had been a stray struggling for survival when he was picked up by someone who, after a few weeks, decided that it was too much of a bother to have another dog, and took him to the vet to be euthanized. After our vet heard what she wanted, they took him in and began caring for him. He was treated for his heartworms, vaccinated and neutered while in their care.
His foster shares "Tank is just so sweet. He is nice to everyone he meets - he wants to play with everyone! He is always enthusiastic and ready for the day. He goes on long walks multiple times a day. Tank is now wearing an Fi Collar that tracks all of his actions and gives a very detailed GPS of his location and walks. Today he has already walked 4366 steps, and slept for a total of 6.6 hrs last night with 6 interruptions. Tank loves nylabones when he is chilling on his kuranda bed. He does go on play dates with some of our volunteers and always fits right in. Tank is not only an all around great guy, he is a tech savvy guy who is connected with all of his electronics."
Tank was a favorite around the clinic, and when he finished treatment, they asked us to take him in and find him a forever home. His playful and fun-loving spirit is infectious, and he is always up for a walk in the woods or a romp in the park. He has done well with all dogs here, and is good with cats too. He is also great in a crate, on his leash, and learning his housebreaking routine. He loves to meet new people too. And car rides are just his favorite thing ever!! He hasn't been around kids here but we imagine he will do fine with them. Tank is a really great guy that almost lost his life because of an uncaring person. He deserves a family where he will be loved and adored.
All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.
Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted. To learn more about our *shelterless* rescue, adoption fees, and procedures, review the list of Frequently Asked Questions on our website at WWW.GDRNE.COM.
