Meet Sylvester
Sylvester went out on the Streets of Bakersfield, a foster for a day program. Here are his notes:
"Border collie mix
30 lbs
Sylvester is a shy boy, but so so affectionate. He takes his time to open up, but once he does he’s a sweet and bubbly puppy. He does well with other dogs and would be good with dog-savvy children who know to give him time and space. We did not encounter any cats today.
Unfortunately, Sylvester has been a resident at this shelter before. He landed back at the shelter due to no fault of his own (original adopters moved). He is ready to find his forever family now. The ideal adopter would be patient and willing to go slow and help Sylvester realize the world isn’t as scary as he may think. He would benefit from short outings to get him socialized and more confident.
Sylvester rides great in the car, doesn’t pull on the leash, and catches treats. He tilts his head so cute when you make kissy noises and whistle at him. He likes being sweet talked and always wiggles the end of his tail. For Halloween this year, Sylvester doesn’t want tricks or treats – he wants a home to call his own. "

Companion Animal Protection Services (CAPS), a national nonprofit based in Thousand Oaks, CA., is partnering with Kern County Animal Services in Bakersfield to find homes for high risk dogs, The shelter has more than 300 dogs and puppies in two metal warehouses with no outdoor runs. Dogs over five-months-old are at high risk for euthanasia because of lack of space and too many abandoned dogs in the community.
Please contact CAPS if you are interested in adopting, rescuing or fostering, and we will make sure the shelter contacts you. They do not answer phones or respond often to voice messages due to understaffing. Foster homes must be in Kern County. The dogs are in Bakersfield, not Thousand Oaks.
