Meet Summer
Spring has arrived and Summer is ready to join a new home!
Summer is a smart, active, and lovable cattle dog / boxer mix female who is almost 3 years old, weighs 45 pounds of pure muscle, and is located in Framingham, MA. She is spayed, housebroken, crate-trained, and up to date on vaccines.
This athletic girl loves physical activity of every kind. She jumps high, runs fast, and would win any, and all agility competitions. She has some goofy qualities that everyone says makes her extra special. When outdoors, she’ll run and play but always comes back to check on you.
Summer really enjoys care rides, and pickup trucks are her favorite – the larger and cooler the better. She can be crafty so watch out! She needs a good doggie seat belt or travel crate to stay put or she’ll wriggle out to get in your lap.
Even though she’s active, Summer enjoys a nice rest and cuddle. She’s also obedient and loves to play with the other dogs in the foster home. She absolutely loves big silly boy dogs the best, but her closest pal right now is a 60-pound, 1-1/2 year old female pittie. They play every day all day!
Summer loves people, especially fellow ladies. She is very particular about men though, and it’s usually a love ya or leave ya attitude with younger males, through age 30. It’s a peculiar quirk we don’t completely understand but she does great with her foster dad and even gave a paw and kiss to a stranger just before the social distancing orders started. New people will just need to let Summer approach them first.
Summer’s love of people has one drawback; she gets upset when left alone. Her adoption pool is limited because of her separation anxiety, but she also has some hyper-vigilance and impulse control issues to work on. The good news is that she is less stressed when taking prescribed medication which she must continue. Advocates are looking into other ways to help her.
We believe in Summer’s ability to improve on her issues. She just needs the right person with patience and a compatible fur-kid to help build her confidence. Her goal is to learn how to chill out and not be “on alert” all the time.
Her adopter would be a true rescue hero. It may be a Hail Mary, a Unicorn, or a Hole-in-One, but we believe there is a match for Summer that looks just like this:
-Adult home, with single confident woman as primary person
-A light-hearted, submissive-type large active male dog (possibly female)
-Quiet home in a quiet area
-Willingness to continue medication
-Stockade 6 ft Fenced yard
-No cats, no young kids or frequent child visitors
