Meet Sully
Hi, I’m Sully! I am a very handsome 6 year old shepherd mix. Before I came to New Start Dog Rescue, I wasn’t living my best life. I was super skinny and was kept outside chained to a tree 24/7. I also found out that I had heartworms. Luckily, the folks at New Start said they would “rescue” me, and oh boy, my life turned around. I went to live with a foster family who adores and loves me! They helped me through heartworm treatment, and today I am a healthy and happy boy.
My foster mom says that I am a very good boy. In fact, if you look up the definition of “very good boy” in a dictionary, you will see my picture. For real! I am a lovable, smart, funny, and chill guy. The thing I love most in this world is being close to my people, whether lounging on the couch watching TV, sitting outside on the deck, curled up under the desk while they work, or sleeping by their side on the bed at night. I even follow them into the bathroom, lol. I guess this is called being a Velcro dog, whatever that means. I just know it means I’m full of love and want a lot of love in return. Maybe I’m making up for lost time from when I was chained to that tree. The second thing I love most is going for walks. I am an excellent walker. I walk well on a leash and don’t get worked up when I see other dogs. I also like meeting new people, although I can be a little shy at first.
I currently live with two doggie foster sisters who I get along with quite well. Sometimes I can be a little pushy with them because I want to be in the spot closest to the humans, but mostly we just hang out together napping or chasing squirrels and bunnies in the yard. I am house broken and have never had an accident or tried to mark in the house. I have a crate where I eat and occasionally take a nap, but I would be fine without a crate. And even though I really love my people, I don’t get anxious when they leave. Basically, I’m a “ready to wear” dog. I am past puppy antics but still young enough to be active and a lot of fun, and most of all, a great companion!
Local adoptions only. We do not adopt out of the state of Illinois. Sully is being fostered in a private home. Appointments to visit him will be set up for approved adopters only. Adoption fee is $300 which includes all appropriate vaccines. He is neutered, microchipped and heartworm negative. He has also been kept on both flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. Please visit our website at http://newstartdogrescue.org and fill out an application if you are interested.
