Meet Sugar Ray, the 65-pound German Shepherd with a heart as big as his name suggests. At 6 years old, Sugar Ray has already proven himself to be a sweet and sociable companion who’s just looking for a family to call his own. Since arriving at his foster home, Sugar Ray has shown that he’s a laid-back, happy-go-lucky kind of guy, perfectly content to lounge around the house or go for leisurely strolls.

Sugar Ray loves his walks—he might pull a bit on the leash, but it's nothing that a little reinforcement can't fix. He’s shown he’s eager to please, especially when treats are involved, so with a bit of consistency, this boy will have “sit, stay, and shake” down pat. While he has displayed a touch of separation anxiety, it’s minor and nothing out of the ordinary for a rescue dog.

At home, Sugar Ray is the definition of calm. He’s got low energy indoors, making him the perfect companion for someone who enjoys a relaxed atmosphere. However, he would absolutely thrive with a yard to explore, so if you’ve got a fenced-in space, Sugar Ray would be thrilled to call it his own. Despite his past, he has no destructive tendencies—though he might indulge in a little digging to get his bed just right!

As for other animals, Sugar Ray hasn’t had much interaction in his current foster home, but his history suggests he’s fine with them. He’s currently living with a senior female human and has been nothing but a gentleman. Due to some initial resource guarding, a household without small children might be best until he fully settles in. However, this behavior has already improved significantly, showing that Sugar Ray just needed a little time to adjust.

Sugar Ray is gentle, affectionate, and will make someone a truly wonderful companion. He’s ready to shower his forever family with all the love and loyalty a German Shepherd can offer. If you’re looking for a devoted, easygoing friend who will be by your side through thick and thin, Sugar Ray is your guy.

Sugar Ray is currently being fostered in VA and will be transported to his forever home by our rescue! We have transports departing each week!
