Meet Stetson

Meet Stetson! Stetson is a fine gentleman and extremely handsome young adult male Terrier mixed breed boy who was part of a group of 23 very lucky dogs that came to us here in Oregon from a shelter we've partnered with called Aggieland Humane Society in Bryan, TX. This sweet and happy 1 year old studling came with 22 other wonderful and very lucky pups of all sizes, shapes, breeds and ages, and he instantly became one of the staff favorites because of his easy-going and very sweet personality. He can also sit for treats like a very good boy. Stetson really is the life of the party and he makes friends everywhere he goes. He was found as a stray outside of Bryan, Texas where he was found with a large open wound on his back. They believe he might've burned it from living under a car but we don't know for sure. The good news is that it is healing extremely well and he sure doesn't let that stop him from loving life and wanting to make friends everywhere! He is very friendly and social with both people and other dogs. He will make a wonderful adventure buddy and family companion. Submit your online adoption application through our website today to not miss out on this opportunity to bring me home for a 3-day home trial towards my adoption. Will you be my hero?

Former foster's update:

- He does really well in his crate, sleeping by himself for up to 9 hours. I also crate him when I go upstairs or have to run errands and a dog can't come. It only takes a tiny treat to get him in and he's quiet until I come back
- He rides really well in the car. I've moved him from the back seat into the cargo area with a gate. He adjusted very well.
- He loves to play with plush toys. He hasn't destroyed a single one.
- He eats really really fast and then sometimes burps some up if he's too excited. I've curbed this by feeding his meals in 2 parts and putting some of in to a puzzle which he LOVES
- In his perfect life, he is a canine blanket. He snuggles hard almost every chance he gets. His back is healing but he's itchy so he likes morning hugs and gentle back scratches which reduces the amount of wound care he does himself. He wants a home so very badly. I think he'd do really well in a home with another dog, older kids and no cats.

Current foster:

I can already see Stetson is super smart, highly food motivated and eager to please. That's like winning the trifecta when it comes to developing an incredibly loyal and accomplished dog.

steps to adopting

(OUR ADOPTABLE DOGS ARE IN SEPARATE TEMPORARY FOSTER HOMES BETWEEN BEND/CENTRAL OREGON AND THE GREATER PORTLAND AREA. THEREFORE, MEET AND GREETS ARE NOT DONE AT OUR FACILITY. TO LEARN MORE, PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR ADOPTION APPLICATION ONLINE AND OUR ADOPTION PROGRAM MANAGER WILL REACH OUT TO YOU WITH FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO MEET YOUR NEW PUP!)

The first step to adopting a dog from SDH is to complete the adoption application. First click on the OUR DOGS tab up above, and then click on the orange colored Fill out an Adoption Application here button to start the process). Once submitted, please expect 3-5 business days or sooner for processing and to hear back from us. Once you are pre-approved, your adoption application will remain on file with us for 1 year and it can go towards multiple adoptions within that 1 year time frame before it expires.

To finalize an adoption you must sign the adoption contract and pay the full adoption fee of $300. The adoption fee helps cover our costs. On average, per dog, it costs SDH between $500-$700 for vetting/medical/sterilization, transport and other rescue related expenses. All dogs are rescued and do not transport to SDH until they are healthy and ready to be adopted. All dogs are examined by a veterinarian before they fly, which includes sterilization whenever possible, given standard vaccines and rabies (if age appropriate). Most dogs are sterilized before they come into our program, however if this is not the case we will spay/neuter them once they arrive at our cost.

Upon their arrival, all dogs are seen for a wellness exam by SDH's medical team. Once the adoption is finalized, any further medical care or treatment will not be covered by SDH, unless discussed prior with our medical team. All known issues are disclosed to the best of our ability prior to finalizing the adoption.
