Name: Squidward
Nicknames: Squid, Hercules, Ham Bone, Hunky Chunk.
Age or Date of Birth: 8 years old.
Activity Level: Medium-spunky, relaxes well in his kennel but I am very enthusiastic about walks and playing with toys in the yard.
Things I do in my free time: I love to play with my toys and sniff around the yard. I love chewing on antlers, nylabones, benebones, and squeaky toys. I think walkies are the best! I start out very excited trying to smell all the grass. My foster parents are helping me stay calm on walks, until I learn how to do this, I will need someone who will be able to keep a tight grip on my leash. I get very excited to see all the new things.
Things I know: I know how to go into my kennel when it is the right time and that it is a safe and comfy place to nap. I know how to sit when there are snacks, but I do get a little excited and wiggly that sometimes I forget. I am working on holding a sit. I do bull rush doors. This will need to be controlled to prevent me from escaping the house. My foster is currently working on door manners with me.
Things I am learning/currently working on: I’m still learning to walk well on a leash, but I’m getting better. I like to let other dogs know where I have been.
Who I currently live with (humans and animals): I was living with 2 adult humans, but I seem to love everyone. I am now living with one adult human and two fun canines… Well, one is fun and the other one is old and lazy. I do crazy zoomies with the young one and lay next to the old grump to chew on my toys. Okay, okay… he is not grumpy, just boring. I also think I am a lap dog and climb into my foster's lap while she works from home.
How I do with kids: I do well with everyone, but I think I’m much smaller than I am and may knock over little ones.
How I do with dogs: I am friendly and respectful with other dogs. I enjoy playing and would love a playmate.
How I do with cats: I did well with cats that lived in my foster home in TN. I was re-tested in MN and did well with a MPBR volunteer's cats.
My current size: I'm short and stout at 75 pounds with a height around most people’s knees.
How I do in my kennel: I love getting a treat in my kennel and then settling in for long naps. If I hear humans, dogs, or other noises I will bark. However, I sleep well and quietly in my kennel at night.
How I do in car rides: I ride in the car well in my kennel but I mostly just snore, so I’m rested up for my new adventure.
Am I house trained: I am good with supervision, control, and a routine.
Additional Info from foster:
Don’t think that age slows this boy down. He is spunky, playful and has plenty of youthful energy. He is a snuggly boy that loves toys and affection. He would do best with a fenced yard but doesn’t require one with the right family that can work with him on his leash walking. He’s an amazing dog who is looking forward to a fresh start.
Squidward medical notes-
Being that Squidward is 8 years old and still a spunky young lad at heart please don't let these notes scare you off. He has Moderate Bilateral hip dysplasia and degenerative joint disease. Lumbar/sacral spondylosis (which means arthritic boney bridging of vertebrae in the lower back). Squidward gets around great and doesn't let these things hold him back. He doesn't have any activity restrictions, but he is also not going to be your running partner. Nice leisurely walks are his jam. Squidward should be on fish oil and glucosamine for the remainder of his life. He will come home with a few weeks’ worth but then you will be responsible from there for the cost. ($40 every other month)
