Meet Sprocket

Sprocket is a two-year-old, 15 lb. terrier that was found as a stray in Boston. This smart little firecracker loves to play, run, and jump. He tries to get to anything and everything that he finds remotely interesting. And he’s excellent at getting to nearly everything because he’s so clever and athletic. He loves chewing toys, playing tug and fetch.

Sprocket loves, loves, loves other dogs and is over the moon when he has a canine playmate with a kindred spirit and will tirelessly play tag. He sometimes will bark, poke and whine at other dogs who don’t want to play when he does.

The guy has two speeds— “go” and “stop”. When he’s in “stop” mode, he will cuddle, and rest his head on your leg (or put his whole body on your head if you are sleeping). He is very happy in his crate and will go there to nap. He chooses to sleep there at night as well, and he will get in it when directed to do so. If he’s asleep when you approach him, he often rolls on his back for belly rubs, smiles with his eyes and wags his tail.

Like all of us, Sprocket is not without his faults. He suffers from fear aggression. While he can quickly make friends with someone new, meeting new humans has to be carefully managed by an experienced owner. And, while he is fine with eating his meals alongside other dogs, he will guard purloined food items like they stand between him and starvation. When reprimanded, he will run into his crate. The guy also has a bark and is not afraid to use it.

Sprocket walks pretty well on a leash. He is housetrained, food motivated and very smart. He sleeps in a crate at night and when it’s time to go to bed, he races in with joy because he knows there is a treat coming. He needs an adult-only home, with owner(s) who can manage his behavior and give him the exercise he craves. Because he can be passionate about barking, he is not appropriate as an apartment dog. He would be over the moon with a live-in canine playmate.

Sprocket is being fostered to in Somerville, MA. His adoption fee is $400. If you are interested in Sprocket, please go to Alldogrescue.org and complete an adoption application at http://alldogrescue.org/adoptable-dogs/adoption-application/
