Name: Spike
Nicknames: none
Age: 6 months
Activity Level: Medium
Things I do in my free time: Play in the backyard with my foster puppy Sully, sleep on the dog bed next to my foster mom's desk while she works, serve as doggy vacuum for all the dropped toddler treats, and avoid the little human in the house because he is just a little too much for me right now. I prefer my humans in the form of an adult and on my terms.
Things I know: I am still a puppy so I am not good at anything yet but I seem to be willing to learn. I am working on understanding what redirecting is and have learned what a leash is and not to be scared to walk on one. I still get all tangled up with Sully and like to walk into my human's legs, but we will get there! I don't want to go into my crate at first but once I am in there and have a nice peanut butter Kong or I know it is bedtime I do great in my crate. I am still working on potty training but that is to be expected from a puppy like me.
Things I am learning: sit, how to live in a house, and how to be less scared of things. Living with a human toddler can be hard with all those sudden moves and sounds. I sometimes growl when I am surprised and just avoid the toddler when at all possible.
Kids: Yes, but recommend they be older as I resource guard food and treats and little humans make me very nervous. Right now, I growl when I have a treat I want to keep but my humans are working on helping me understand that there is plenty of food and treats. My new humans will need to continue this work and should probably do a little research on how to help me with this.
Dogs: yes, but as a puppy I sometimes annoy the other dogs with my constant desire to play.
Cats: don’t know
Size: Still a puppy but my paws are predicting a pretty big fella.
Car rides: Rode well in the crate and was quiet.
Additional Info from foster: Spike is super sweet and a bit shy. He doesn't have much interest in laying on the couch with us humans for snuggles but he does love to get pets when he is near you and loves to bump into your legs! He is very playful and seems to relate best to our puppy Sully. Spike does get sick of Sully and vice versa though and since they are both puppies, they just have a timeout in their respective crates. Spike also met prior MN Pit Bull alum Tootsie and he had a blast running after her in the backyard!! She did get a little sick of his constant puppy play, but Spike did pretty well listening to her cues and when he didn't he was more than happy to hang out with us humans to give Tootsie a break. Spike looks like he will be quite large so will benefit from an owner who can handle such a big guy and knows how to work with him on his socialization and other doggy stuff he seems to know nothing about right now. Also, how can you not love all those spots!!
