Meet Snoopy
We pulled Snoopy from another shelter when they became full. Before that, his situation was very unfortunate: he and another dog, presumed his housemate, were left abandoned in a dog park. We can't imagine how anyone could do this to any animal, but our goal is to make sure Snoopy knows that this will never again happen to him.
Snoopy is a boy we'd label as one of our "Shy babies". Who can blame him for having trust issues after what he went through? Shy babies like Snoopy simply need someone with lots of patience and love to offer him. It may take him extra time to settle in, and he might not ever feel completely comfortable in new settings, but providing him with gentle structure can at least help him feel safe and content in his everyday life. One thing we have noted is that Snoopy LOVES other dogs, and becomes a different dog when he's with a playmate. Because of this, we are requiring that Snoopy goes to a home with another dog. He's currently got a 'bestie' here at the shelter and he loves to romp and wrestle with her!
It's important to remember that dogs like Snoopy should have safe containment anytime they are outside. This means a leash, tie out or fence so that, if he spooks, he doesn't find himself lost or in danger. His adopters should take time every day to work on commands, name recognition and rewards so that he understands where his safety is. Continued training will also help to solidify his bond with his humans. We think that Snoopy would be OK with older kids who are able to go slow with him and understand his boundaries. We recommend his family utilize a crate or an area that's just his, that way he can have a safe place to retreat if he feels like he needs a break.
If you have never worked with a shy dog before, we'd recommend consulting with a trainer in your area who could help you guide him into the best life he could have! He's a very sweet, good-natured boy who has simply been let down by humans and needs a reminder that he is loved. If you think that's you, we'd love to introduce you. We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been approved:

Snoopy is neutered and will be fully vaccinated prior to adoption. His adoption fee is $200.
