Meet Smiley - in foster home
My name is Smiley and that’s what I am doing a lot more of these days!
I am a 2-year old, 60lbs male doodle mix that almost didn’t get the second chance at life that Wags was trying to give me.
See, just a few minutes after arriving at the rescue, I certainly didn’t understand that what was happening to me was a good thing. I was really scared. So I jumped a
fence and was on the loose for 12 days! I am clearly a tough survivor! Luckily, all the volunteers at Wags refused to give up on me, and they finally managed to get me back safely.
Since then, I have been thoroughly enjoying all of the belly rubs, brushing, steady meals, and super safe and cozy kennel. I have been sleeping so peacefully.
I also have been wagging my sweet tail constantly. I now know what it feels like to be loved.
I will require a patient adopter. I am still unsure of life. I do come with an Apple AirTag and GPS tracker (phew!) that requires a very small monthly fee. I love other dogs but kids terrify me. I keep my kennel clean! Rumor has it that if you ask me to “Smile!” that I will!
A nice volunteer and foster took me home to foster and they’ve learned even more about me.
Here’s what she had to say about the improvements I’ve made and observations:
“Smiley is a very sweet and timid 2 year old Labradoodle. The past few weeks have been about letting him decompress from being in the rescue. He’s starting to come out of his shell with daily improvement and confidence. He is most happy in the morning, jumping on the bed with excitement when my alarm goes off. He leans in to get lovies and rubs and his tail wags in circles. It’s the best feeling to see him so happy!
He is obsessed with squirrels and will sit by the window to watch them. We go on short walks several times a day to get him used to being in the suburbs and all of the noises from people and cars.
He is potty trained. I do not kennel him, he is free to roam the house but chooses to stay in my bedroom or close to me when around the house. He loves Yak bones and antlers and has started to get the zoomies and be more playful and confident! He likes my female dog but does not bother with her much. He is around and tolerates the men in the house but will not allow them to pet him as of yet. We are doing positive reinforcement with treats. Hoping this will come with trust, time and patience. “
Will you come to meet me? Maybe you can be the one to let me really settle and know how to be a loved dog.
