Meet Siren

Meet Siren! Sound the alarm, as this beautiful and sassy girl is on fire with the desire to find her perfect person or family! Siren is a gorgeous adult slick-coated female Black Labrador mix girl who's 6-7 years young and was part of a group of 23 very lucky dogs that came to us from Aggieland Humane Society in Bryan, TX. She can be a bit picky about other dogs, so this girl's ideal household might be one that doesn't have any children in it, her owner(s) work from home or are retired and can be home with her most of the day, there are no kids, and preferably she'll have a big yard in a more rural setting vs. urban neighborhood and her family is patient and understanding of her quirks and they're happy to give her the time and space to adjust and settle in where she is able to gradually transition into her new space and surroundings at her pace, but where she's warmly welcomed with tons of love and spoiled with attention and adventures! Before getting adopted officially, each dog will be seen by our veterinarian for their wellness exam to ensure they're spayed/neutered, are up to date on their shots, and are microchipped. Submit your online adoption application through our website today to not miss out on this opportunity to bring this wonderful girl home for a an extended home trial towards her adoption. Will you be my hero?

Foster update:

Sirena, as we've nicknamed her, has been with us over 3 weeks. As we mentioned previously, she settled right in from the beginning, like she's lived her whole life here. She knows the following commands: come, sit, down, and stay, but she doesn't always admit to knowing stay! She is also picking up on hands signals. She has her favorite lounging spots in the house; she's allowed only one place on the furniture (with a special blanket). She adopted her favorite toys, and loves exploring our fenced property. She also really loves to run. Sirena also has very good table manners (no begging!). She is great in her crate at night and being left in it for a few hours during the day if necessary. She's great in the car, too. She walks pretty well on lead; we are working with her not to pull. Sirena is friendly with visitors after her initial barky greeting; you know you're accepted when she comes back with one of her toys!
Sirena is an extremely sweet, lovable dog who would be perfect for someone who has the time and patience to continue working with her and who wants a happy friend to hang out with.

steps to adopting

(OUR ADOPTABLE DOGS ARE IN SEPARATE TEMPORARY FOSTER HOMES BETWEEN BEND/CENTRAL OREGON AND THE GREATER PORTLAND AREA. THEREFORE, MEET AND GREETS ARE NOT DONE AT OUR FACILITY. TO LEARN MORE, PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR ADOPTION APPLICATION ONLINE AND OUR ADOPTION PROGRAM MANAGER WILL REACH OUT TO YOU WITH FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO MEET YOUR NEW PUP!)

The first step to adopting a dog from SDH is to complete the adoption application. First click on the OUR DOGS tab up above, and then click on the orange colored Fill out an Adoption Application here button to start the process). Once submitted, please expect 3-5 business days or sooner for processing and to hear back from us. Once you are pre-approved, your adoption application will remain on file with us for 1 year and it can go towards multiple adoptions within that 1 year time frame before it expires.

To finalize an adoption you must sign the adoption contract and pay the full adoption fee of $300. The adoption fee helps cover our costs. On average, per dog, it costs SDH between $500-$700 for vetting/medical/sterilization, transport and other rescue related expenses. All dogs are rescued and do not transport to SDH until they are healthy and ready to be adopted. All dogs are examined by a veterinarian before they fly, which includes sterilization whenever possible, given standard vaccines and rabies (if age appropriate). Most dogs are sterilized before they come into our program, however if this is not the case we will spay/neuter them once they arrive at our cost.

Upon their arrival, all dogs are seen for a wellness exam by SDH's medical team. Once the adoption is finalized, any further medical care or treatment will not be covered by SDH, unless discussed prior with our medical team. All known issues are disclosed to the best of our ability prior to finalizing the adoption.
