Meet Shorty

Shorty is the perfect blend of cute, sweet and spunky. He is very calm in a home setting. He listens well, and re-directs exceptionally well! If there is ever anything you don't want him to be doing, just call him over to get a treat and he has always listened. He appreciates someone caring for him, and you can tell he really loves cuddles. He has been great with his foster mom's dogs. Very appropriate dog behavior all around. If he feels uncomfortable with another dog, he does the appropriate thing of using his dog verbal cue - dog words' to give communication about it. And that's great because then you can move him or leave the situation without it becoming stressful. During the day at home, he snoozes. He sits really nicely, gets in his harness well, rides well in a car, and is polite meeting new people! *cue the Shorty roll over for a belly rub move*. He's a great dog because he'll sleep and chill, or be a great walk partner. You can tell he wants to be a good boy.

Shorty can live with other dogs, but will need slow intros meeting his new friends - and not in a tight space. Outdoors, going on a walk, or somewhere he doesn't feel cornered is best. He does like dog companionship, as long as the dog isn't in his face or giving a lot of intensity. So passive, low energy dogs are the best fit for him. During play time with his dog friends, he doesn't like toys being taken out of his mouth, but if you say Shorty, let's get a treat' he immediately drops the toy and comes by the treat spot. He doesn't like playing Tug, but seems to want a toy when he's anxious more than anything else.

Shorty doesn't need someone to be harsh with him, but someone that will keep him safe, and if he feels safe he is exceptional. It seems that his trust grows as he gets more time to decompress, and the more relaxed he is the calmer he is.

One of the best things about Shorty is that he has energy to take a walk and be social, but then he's tired and will sleep. Unlike a high energy dog who wants to go go go.
