Meet Shih Tzu - Corduroy
update 1/5/25 Corduroy has been in foster care for one year now. His favorite things are a fluffy bed and treats. Even though he is 10 years old now, he loves playing with the other dogs. He is now on a prescription food diet and is doing very well with that. he continues to do very well with his potty training as long as he is let out regularly. He can go upstairs, but not down and he is a bulky dude, weighing in at 20 pounds. He will need to be carried down the steps.
7/25/24. Corduroy is such a goof. He loves playing with other dogs, has learned to love pets and is good about doing his business outside. He will still require another resident dog to help him feel secure.
update 2/20/24. Corduroy continues to thrive. He is not even the same dog he was 6 weeks ago. He is starting to like his foster mom. He follows her everywhere and wags his tail when she talks to him. He is also rocking potty training! He doesn't lift his leg to mark. He just doesn't know to how to ask to go outside. We are on a very routine schedule, and he has not had an accident in the house in many weeks.
Update 1/18/24. Corduroy is enjoying his new life with warm cozy beds. He likes to hop from kennel to kennel to find the perfect spot to snooze. He loves the other dogs, so a resident dog or two will be a must for his new home. He is slowly warming up to his foster mom. She gets tail wags and some hand sniffs, which is a pretty big step.
Corduroy is a 9 year old male Shih Tzu that weighs 19 pounds. He is overweight but I expect the pounds to drop as he gets more exercise and eats high quality food. Corduroy was recently released from a commercial breeder and slowly easing into his new life. He is extremely shy, likes the other dogs in his foster home but isn't sure about the human.
He is not leash trained so a fenced yard will be required. He is neutered and up to date on all vaccines and had a dental cleaning. The vet did detect a slight heart murmur (2/6) and recommended continued monitoring.
Adopting a senior dog is very rewarding. It is so sweet to watch as they grow more comfortable and their personality comes out. Corduroy's adoption fee is $300
