Meet Shellie

Shellie came to the pound as a stray when she was 5 months of age, therefore we do not know much about her. She appears to have Boxer traits by jumping around and wiggling her back end. She has appearance markings as a Terrier mix.
Shellie is coming along in her training to be a great companion animal. She is still lots of puppy but she is only a year old. Shellie has been with trainer Dog Days Pet Services, Ron, who worked weekly with Shellie and taught Shellie her basic commands and recall. At Flat Creek Pet Care, Susan Moon worked to help with teaching Shellie in home skills and walking on a leash. Susan Moon learned quite a bit about the foster pup in just one week. BHS appreciates and recommends both trainers for continuing training.
This is what Susan Moon reported about Shellie:
This beautiful girl has a big personality! At a year old, Shellie just loves life, especially playing and exploring. She has made good progress with basic manners while in her foster home before coming to me, but she needed help fine tuning her leash manners and evaluating her social skills. She is very athletic and has lots of drive, so channeling that drive in an appropriate manner is key to fulfilling her needs and keep her from getting destructive (lots of structured play time through tug, chasing toys, and safe toys/bones for chewing). She’s improving with her house manners, beautifully sits at doors until released and is crate trained. She still requires supervision inside the home when not in crate as that active mind will likely get her into trouble until she is more mature!

Shellie is dog friendly; however, she has the tendency to become too aroused too quickly and during play with another dog it can turn south fast. This isn’t uncommon with terrier breeds, so taking her to the dog park or dog daycare is not recommended for her. With a high prey drive, placement in a home without other dogs or smaller dogs/pets is ideal unless the family has experience living with strong breeds.

She’s a big sweet goofball basically who will thrive in a home that can provide her consistency and time to settle in and has an active lifestyle to properly channel her zest for life!

Shellie is available for adoption, but only to a home that is dedicated to continue her training and ready for Shellie active ways. No small children and recommend a meet and greet with another dog.

Shellie has been dewormed, microchipped, free of external parasites and has received the Distemper-Parvo combination vaccine.
