Scooter Mixed Breed Fairmont, MN

What breed is Scooter? A DNA test was done to answer that question and the results were 22 different breeds! Not all the breeds were listed, but the top breeds included: black lab, corgi, golden retriever, and the winner-Chihuahua at 16% Maybe not a Heinz 57 but maybe a Catch 22.

Scooter was born in South Dakota, then moved with his mom and littermates to a shelter in Iowa. He spent the next 3-4 months at that facility. In an effort to make space to help more dogs, Scooter and his sister moved to a foster home with our group.

Scooter is in a foster home with his best friend, Lola, a senior Great Dane. He also has some feline friends and enemies. The half-grown kittens think Scooter is sort of fun and will play with him. The senior cat just patiently waits for Scooter to get bored and then wanders off. The other cats are less tolerant and/or scared of him. Sometimes Scooter leaves them alone, other times he barks and chases. His behavior is mainly determined by the cats' reaction.

Scooter's foster home is on an acreage. He is inside unless the foster is outside with him and his foster sister, Lola. Scooter is very good at staying on the place unless Lola leads him astray. He has learned: to stay out of the way of riding lawn mowers, sticks are fun unless you let them poke you, cars and trucks passing on the road should not be chased, and wild animals are faster than he is.

Scooter is wonderful with his foster mom, but is very timid around other people. He is less trusting of men. We are working on getting him to relax more with strangers, but it is slow work.
