Meet Sammy
Sammy is a 2.5 year old mix who was born into Brookline's care along with his 6 littermates when his mom, Nora, a Labrador mix was in a Brookline foster home.
Sammy was adopted out at 8 weeks but was returned to the rescue by his adopters at 11 months in need of socialization and training. He has learned his good dog manners while in foster care and at a board and train program at K9 Basics in Marlton, NJ where he continues to take obedience and socialization classes.
Sammy is now ready to find his furever home! Sammy would do best in a home with a confident, experienced owner with no young children who is home more often than not, and is willing to continue his training. A large property is optimal so Sammy can get plenty of exercise, play, roam and explore at his leisure.
Sammy is a higher energy dog who can play hard outside but then settles well in the house. Sammy loves to swim, play fetch, chase and tug with both people and other similar energy dogs. Sammy also loves roaming, and sniffing in the yard outside, and keeps the yard clear of geese, deer and squirrels.
Sammy currently goes for one 2 mile walk in the morning if its not too hot and has active playtime in the yard chasing balls and playing tug with people and/or another dog. He would enjoy having a job that let him use his nose, and/or tracking skills or chasing off pesky geese in your pond or deer in your garden.
Sammy can sometimes be a challenge because he is very smart, and sometimes stubborn, and he absolutely knows when you are trying to trick him and doesn't fall for it, except maybe when it comes to ice, olives or American cheese! He is definitely food motivated which makes training easier. Sammy is a great dog that deserves to find just the right forever home so he can live a long, happy and carefree life full of exploration of the outdoors and loving his people.
Sammy is loving, funny, loyal and playful but he can also be independent, persistent, and protective. He needs someone that will take charge and prove to him, through time and absolute consistency, and continued training, that you are the pack leader. He will reward your time with respect, love and protection.
