Meet Sam - IN New England

Meet Sam!. Sam is an almost two year old Flat Coat Retriever (or possibly golden mix) who made the trek North from Tennessee last September and is settling into his adoptive home. Unfortunately, the family has received some difficult news in terms of a medical diagnosis and they feel they will no longer be able to care for Sam in the way that he deserves. They have reached out to us for assistance and we are happy to help.

His mom reports that this 2 year old, 60ish pound mixed breed boy enjoys playing with his two fur siblings in their fenced in yard and afterward he loves to sun himself on their deck. He looks forward to 1-2 daily walks in the neighborhood and stays in the "heel" position with minor corrections. He LOVES to hike on the trails on a long leash so he can explore his surroundings.

Sam was overjoyed when he met his first cat...he thought it was his own personal toy to chase....we recommend no cats in his new home. He also has not been around very young children so older children might be best. Sam can be vocal when he hears noises outdoors, the family is working on that. With patience and consistency things can only get better. He is food motivated so treats are used abundantly.

Sam is microchipped, neutered and up to date on all his shots. His personality is the sweetest. He loves belly rubs, cuddling on the sofa, sitting next to you and will happily give kisses.

As a young pup, Sam will need ongoing training to help him become the great dog we know he can be. We would love to see him go to a home where someone is home more often than not as he loves being with his humans :)

Sam would prefer :

*a live in playmate
*a fenced yard where he can burn off extra puppy energy
*someone who is home more often than not and committed to daily walks
*An adult household is preferable but children should be older than 12
*A family that will understand that even though he is 2, he is still a puppy and will require patience, love and training!
*A home where he will be allowed on the furniture....he insists on that :)
Give this sweet rescue pup the forever home he deserves, and you'll gain a loyal companion for life!

Rescue is more than a verb. It's a promise. Dogs come with a variety of needs - some behavioral, some emotional, some medical. When approved applicants rescue these dogs by adopting them, they take on whatever comes with the dog. This is what it means to rescue.

GHR ONLY ADOPTS TO ADULTS OVER THE AGE OF 25 AND PUPPIES WHERE CHILDREN ARE OVER THE AGE OF 6 AND TO PEOPLE WHO HAVE TIME FOR THEM.

It doesn't matter where the pups are from; it only matters where they live the rest of their lives. If you are interested in adopting, please complete an application at www.goldenhuggs.org, this is the first step in the process. The adoption fee $600 which includes all vetting including neuter and age appropriate shots and a microchip as well For more information or to complete an application please got to www.goldenhuggs.org
