Meet Saban
COURTESY LISTING IN THE BIRMINGHAM, AL AREA.
Saban has a medium drive overall and low end of high food drive. Toy drive is in there, but wasn't fostered much in previous homes so he's unsure of what's okay and what isn't. In the right hands, his toy drive can be brought out.
He previously lived with a female German shepherd and has been okay with older, lower-energy large dogs in foster. He has shown some same-sex aggression prior to being neutered. That may change some now that he's snipped, but it may not. While we have not tested him with any smaller dogs, he seems uninterested in cats. It is worth noting that our test cats are ridiculously dog savvy and do not typically run or do things that would normally trigger prey drive in dogs. When he has shown some interest, we're able to call him away.
He's crate-trained and settles fine in the crate. He is house-trained but will need time to generalize in a new setting.
We do not recommend a home with small/young children. He is a BIG boy. We do believe he will be fine with older kids/teens who understand boundaries with dogs.
He would make a fine entry-level sport dog for things like nose work, rally, weight pull, etc. We have started basic obedience with him.
Note: Saban came to us heartworm positive and has been successfully treated. He must stay on heartworm prevention year-round in his new home.
Saban's adoption fee is sponsored to the right home.
