Name: Ruby
Nicknames: Ruby-Roo, Miss Ruby, and Momma
Age or Date of Birth: Estimated to be between 3 and 4 years old according to the shelter.
*However, we think she may be between 1 and 2 years old based on energy levels and sparkling white teeth.
Activity Level: Medium
Things I do in my free time: Ruby loves to play. Her favorite game in the whole wide world is fetch and she will play for hours. She always brings the ball back, drops it, and waits excitedly for you to throw it. Ruby has an exuberant amount of positive and playful energy. She has a strong drive to please her humans. She would thrive in obedience and/or agility.
Things I know: Sit, down, come, kennel
Things I am learning/currently working on: Leash manners. Ruby’s leash manners have improved quite a bit over the last six months (update from 5/23/2022). She is easily corrected and redirected.
Who I currently live with (humans and animals): One adult female and one adult senior male dog. She also tries to play fetch with the senior male dog. She brings the ball to him when he is napping on the couch, drops it on his face, and waits excitedly with her tail wagging… even though he has never played back. LOL She is hilarious. A lot of fun videos of her have been posted to her Facebook page – Miss Ruby MPBR.
How I do with kids: Ruby does not live with kids, but we do not anticipate any issues.
*Update: She spent three weeks with a temp foster and loved being around kids. According to Ruby they are excellent ball throwers for a good game of never-ending fetch!
How I do with dogs: Playful. However, Ruby is more on the dominant side and would likely do better with a more submissive dog. There are videos of her playing and interacting with other dogs on her Facebook page- Miss Ruby MPBR.
*Potential adopters with another dog: Dog intros before adoption would be required to make sure she is the ideal match for your family. We will work with you until both the adopter and the rescue feel confident in the match. Please reach out with any questions.
How I do with cats: Chased cats in her former foster home. Due to her strong prey drive, we do not recommend cats for Miss Ruby at this time.
My current size: ~40 – 50 pounds
How I do in my kennel: Ruby has come a long way in her kennel. She is mostly quiet and goes into the kennel on her own now.
How I do in car rides: Ruby does great kenneled in the car.
Am I house trained?: Yes, Ruby has not had any accidents in the house or her kennel. She has been here for 6 months as of 5/23/2022.
Additional Info from foster: Ruby is the momma of the Gem litter (all of her puppies have been adopted). She has a lot of positive energy. She loves to investigate and have fun. I believe her prey drive for bunnies, squirrels, and kitties is strong. Ruby can jump a 4’ fence but does fine in a privacy fence that is 6’ tall. Her temp fosters had a 6’ privacy fence and she made no attempts at escaping! She was with her temp fosters for approximately three weeks.
DNA test showed that Ruby is 100% American Pit Bull Terrier.
