Meet Roux
We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.
Roux, 3yr old spayed female, pitbull mix, 53 pounds. Roux is in a foster home in Houston, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up!
Roux is an excitable, energetic gal who loves to play hard. She likes to chase and herd her canine friends, nipping at their legs and neck when excited. She lives in a foster home with a large breed dog and would do best with another dog of her same size and energy level/play style. An older or smaller dog would not be the ideal match for this young spitfire.
Roux is mostly non-reactive toward other dogs but will bark and pull toward them when encountered on her walks - she's super eager to go say hi and play, but she does not bark nor is she aggressive in her excitement. She has decent leash manners but when she catches a scent she wants to see through, Roux can pull rather hard. Her foster is working with her and in general, we find harnesses or Gentle Leader head collars to work well at controlling unwanted leash behaviors.
Roux has been around younger kids at her neighborhood park but does not spend much time nor does she live with them. She behaved sweetly with a toddler who approached her in the park but since she's an eager beaver, we would recommend an adoptive home with kids over the age of 8yrs.
Roux is cat friendly...to an extent. She lives in a foster home with cats and enjoys the company of the youngest cat, sleeping nearby when they are both settled. Like any older sister, though, when Roux gets overstimulated and she sees him move - she does like to chase after him. She's more curious than anything but her foster notes it depends a lot on her energy level at the time.
Roux is working on her house manners: learning to settle and what an acceptable inside energy level is, and perfecting her potty training. She drinks a lot of water (gotta stay hydrated with all that play!) so she does pee a lot and is let out every 2-3 hours when her foster is home. Nevertheless, Roux has had a few accidents in the house.
She is crated during the day and has never had an accident in the crate. She’s ok in the crate but will cry in the mornings when she hears that people are up. She has serious FOMO. She always wants to be inside or out of the crate with her people. She is always crated when unsupervised as she finds things to destroy. Puppy behavior.
Roux has not demonstrated any food aggression or resource guarding, but she does enjoy stealing her foster sibling's toys and is an avid toy destroyer. Roux LOVES to play. She’ll fetch, tug, and likes chew bones. She is very sweet and cuddly and tries to sit in your lap.
Roux would be happiest in a home with active people or people that would work her - long walks/runs, hikes, sniff spots, doggy day care or parks, and even obedience or agility training. She can jump and is very strong, and she has a herding drive that can be fun if used correctly. She’d appreciate a similar energy level dog companion but would be fine as an only dog as long as the owners were active. She enjoys being busy and is curious to always be on the lookout for something to get into.
