Meet Rosie - in New England
Rosie’s DNA test results show that she is a mix of lab (51%), Siberian Husky (20%), German Shepherd (16%), and a sprinkle of Collie. She learned to love doggie day care where she could run and chase with puppies her own age. She has now graduated to “overnight doggie camp” where she is receiving professional training based on her individual needs.
Rosie continues to be wary of strangers but is eager to please. She gravitates to women and is gaining in her ability to adjust to men. She is a barker when someone comes to the door or goes by on the street. She has had limited exposure to children and therefore children should be 12 or older. She has not been exposed to cats.
Her crate is her safe space and she loves its security. In her foster home she eats and sleeps in her crate and will often go inside when her environment is too stressful. She is comfortable being left in her crate for short periods of time when her human needs to leave the home.
Rosie is increasing mastery of basic commands like sit, come, and off. She is housebroken and asks to go outside when she needs to do so.. She loves to play with toys both inside and out and to chase and romp with the other dogs. Since she is a rough player, another dog in the home should be on the larger size. We are exploring with her trainer whether Rosie needs to be an only dog or with a male furry companion only. Rosie will continue to require consistent training to teach her leash skills and help her feel comfortable when walking.
Rosie is a beautiful, sweet puppy who will continue to need a quiet home with experienced adults who can reassure her that life is good and that there will always be a regular routine and enough food and love to go around. She needs a structured home where she can continue to progress at her own pace and build the confidence she needs to become her best self. Rosie is happiest when she is doing zoomies in the yard, chasing a ball, and when she is tumbling with her fur friends.
Here again are Rosie’s needs:
• Physical secure fence. (no electric our underground fences)
• Patient adults with rescue experience committed to participate in and follow up on training
• Quiet home (no apartments or city life please) with consistent and predictable routine
• Young or middle-aged active dog for socialization and exercise
• Adults home more often than not
• Children over age 12
