It's been a hard-knock life for little Rosebud but things are looking up! Rose is estimated to be between 2 and 3 years old, a cattle dog mixed with something smaller; she's only 22 pounds! But don't let her small size fool you; she's got the cattle dog personality through and through. Rose is active, full of sass, and a quick learner. She picked up "sit" just watching another dog practicing the skill! Rosey also knows "get-in-your crate," "down," (lie down) "touch" (a nose to hand target) and "off" (feet on the floor). She is learning to come when called and would be a fun dog for trick training or agility.

A bit stand-offish when first meeting new people and unknown dogs, Rose does best when allowed to watch from a distance while she builds bravery. A new owner will need to let Rose acclimate to new things and routines in her own sweet time. If pushed, Rose can be easily overwhelmed. But once she knows you and feels safe, her devotion is boundless. She does well with other dogs when introductions are slow and careful. She especially likes running and chasing with the dog in her foster home who is most similar in size, age, and energy level to her own. She would love a new home where there's another smaller, playful dog to run and wrestle with. She'd also be fine as an "only" dog. Rose is not a good candidate for dog parks as that environment would be overwhelming to such a sweet, sensitive dog.

Sometimes acting younger than her age and with some genetic propensity, Rose can be a bit nippy with people. She also likes to jump up (we're working on this!) and sometimes will even combine a nip and a jump! In foster care, she is learning about impulse control and confidence building, but she'll need more of these training games with her adoptive family. Rose would benefit from positive training either in private lessons or in a small group class where she can "opt out" if she is feeling overwhelmed. Because her "manners" still need to be refined, children should be over the age of 10, gentle and respectful of dogs.

Rose is house trained (although she may need some gentle reminders in her new home) and crate trained. While active and athletic, she also has a good "off switch" indoors. She's very people focused and will want to follow you from room to room and settle wherever you may be. She's trying really hard to be the very best dog ever and will come with one free training session (either in-person or via zoom) to help with her initial adjustment. Will you be the lucky one to help little Rosebud blossom in her forever home?

Rose is being fostered with four other dogs in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Rose is up-to-date on vaccines, has been dewormed, and is heartworm negative and on monthly preventative. Apply to adopt this sweetheart today!
