Meet Rodrigo
My name is Rodrigo, but you can call me Roddy. I am what you call an orphan. When I was just a puppy someone abandoned me in Mexico. I did my best to be a good street dog, but I wasn’t so fortunate. I spent two years on my own, wandering around outside on the streets working on my manners and those eyes you can’t say no to. It was hard work and no matter how hard I tried I kept getting skinnier and sicker. I was ready to give up when some nice hoomans at a local Mexico shelter took me in. They told me I was the most goodest of boys and helped me get healthy again! I loved the volunteers and I greeted them each day with lots of kisses and tail wags no matter what!
Even though everyone says I’m there favorite, no one has adopted me. All I want is a forever home. I spent three years watching my friends get adopted and go away to their new homes. Now I’m five and I’m so scared I’ll never get a hooman of my own to love. The shelter got nervous too, so on December 11th, 2019 they brought me somewhere very different called Portland, Oregon!
I spent all my time in the shelter learning how to be the best dog I can be. I’m really good at walks. I don’t pull or tug and I greet other dogs nicely. I can even go off leash. I won’t go too far and will come back when you call my name! I’ve learned all sorts of cool tricks like sit, “go to bed”, place and fetch. Speaking of games, I love tug-of-war! I’ll even let you win sometimes. I am great at solving puzzles; the Kong Wobbler is my favorite for mealtime, but I also have a Snuggle Mat and Stuffed Kongs! I won’t get stressed out if you have leave for the day and I’m what you call a shadow dog, so when you’re here I’ll just follow you around. The best combination so I’ve been told! I am also crate trained. I’ve been told I am the best snuggler. I will cuddle you whenever you want. I also love adventures: hiking, camping, roadtrips. I love riding in the car with hoomans whether it’s a short errand where I get to sit in the back to look out the window or a nice long trip where I get to stick my head out the window to smell all the things. If I’m with you, then I am one happy doggo! I am trying so hard, I don’t understand why no one wants me.
I really do love everyone. Maybe too much. When I meet new people, I just get so excited and I can’t stop giving kisses! I will kiss them forever and ever and ever on their hands and mouth. I hear I need to work on giving “personal space.” But once I know someone, I can control myself better. Because I’ve never lived in a home before I also am working on learning where I’m supposed to go potty. Moving around so much has made that kind of confusing. Right now, I wear a belly band. I would love a home that is patient with me while I figure out impulse control and being house broken. Luckily BAPBR is working really hard to help me fix my flaws so I can be perfect!
I don’t know if I’ve said this yet, but I love everyone. Big hoomans, little hoomans, doggos and kitties, but if I could pick my dream home, I would get all the attention! I need an adult-only home with no other pets, lots of time together and only a few visitors while I settle in; the volunteers say I need to “decompress” – whatever that means. The best would be if I could go to work with you outside and then we could go home to cuddle or play fetch in the backyard, but that’s everyone’s dream so I would be just as happy staying home and waiting patiently for you to return. All I want is a hooman to love. Will you be my hooman?
