Meet Rocoto
My Story:
I came into rescue before I was even born! My mom was found homeless and pregnant, and my foster family took her in. Just a few days later, she gave birth to eight beautiful puppies—six girls and two boys. We were affectionately named the Pepper Litter because of our unique and lively personalities!
I started my journey in Houston, Texas, where my first foster family took wonderful care of me. They love me so much and are working closely with my current foster family in West Seattle to find me the perfect forever home. I have had so many wonderful people rooting for me along the way!
My mom is a petite and sweet-natured girl at only 39 pounds, and she found her forever home in Burien, WA. I take after her in temperament—loving, eager to please, and devoted to my people.
What I Need in a Home:
I am a loyal, incredibly smart, and affectionate dog that thrives with patience, structure, and confidence-building through positive reinforcement training. My foster family is actively working with me on my training—I am learning manners, gaining confidence, and getting consistent, positive reinforcement. I go on regular public outings to be exposed to new people and environments, helping me grow into a well-rounded companion.
I love my crate—it’s my safe space, and I sleep in it each night with great success. I am also fully potty trained and haven’t had a single accident in my foster home!
I love to go on walks and runs, but I don’t need excessive physical exercise to be happy. A few good outings and playtime each day are enough to keep me calm and snuggly at home. My favorite place is curled up on the couch next to my people, where I can relax and enjoy their company.
I love to play with other dogs and currently go to doggy daycare three times a week, where I enjoy structured socialization and exercise. In a home with other dogs, I would thrive with clear structure and guidance to ensure smooth interactions. I do well with proper introductions and enjoy having doggy friends, but I would also be happy as the only dog in the home where I can soak up all the love and attention.
I have also been learning how to coexist with cats in my foster home! I have been doing really well with positive reinforcement when the kitties are around. Because of this, I could also go to a home with cats, as long as my new adopters are willing to help expose me to new cats with positive reinforcement and set me up for success.
Because I can be a little nervous, a quiet, structured home is best for me. I would thrive in a home without small children, as their fast movements and loud noises can overwhelm me. Instead, I would do best with teenagers or adults who can respect my space and help me feel safe.
Why You’ll Love Me:
-Super smart, food-motivated, and eager to please—I love learning new things!
-Walks like a dream on a leash—I haven’t been reactive to other dogs or distractions while out on walks.
-Loves to go on walks and runs but also enjoys relaxing at home.
-Loves to play fetch, chew on toys, and engage in mentally stimulating games to keep my busy mind happy.
-Thrives with enrichment activities—puzzle toys, snuffle mats, and interactive games help keep me engaged and fulfilled.
-Sweet, cuddly, and affectionate—I adore snuggling up after a day of play.
-Great in the car—I enjoy road trips and would love to be your adventure buddy.
-Very trainable—I am eager to work with my new family and continue learning.
