Ritchey is a laid-back kind of guy, who also has bursts of energy. He is undoubtedly a happy boy and is not shy about it in any way. This canine kiddo loves people, and loves to lounge around inside and out. Ritchey enjoys affection time, and primarily wants to be with you, and hang out in your presence. He is a great pup to have in your home (ideally with access to a fenced yard). Ritchey is house-trained, and is ok hanging out in his own space when left home alone.

Richard is indeed an interesting character. While he can be a quiet couch potato, he can also be just as consistently energetic and jubilant. Pull out that leash or walk through the door, and you will see him go from zero to ten almost instantly. Additionally, he can be the gentlest of the gentle, and can also be rough, relentlessly invading your personal space with his jumping & excitement (especially when you have food or leash in hand). Ritchey can also be vocal (and that's when you know he has hound in him), but he only speaks when he has something to say, and it's normally quite humorous.

Mr. Ritchey is estimated to be about 5-6 years old. He came to us very underweight, and at his current 90 lbs, we realize we overcompensated in getting meat back on his bones. In other words, this boy could stand to go on a diet and/or increase his physical activity!

Richard loves sleeping in bed with his human, and even though it took some time, he eventually learned the command OVER (which means GIVE ME SOME SPACE IN THE BED & MOVE OVER).

Richard does not seem to be into toys or playing fetch. He enjoys going out for car rides, and also going out for walks (however, be aware he does require some serious leash training as he is a hard puller). Really though, RItchey would be quite content lounging around the house and running around in the yard. And while he loves being in your company, he is not necessarily a velcro dog, as he can be sufficiently independent.

Ritchey has spent time both in the foster home, and in a couple different boarding facilities. He does well wherever he goes. He is a favorite at the boarding facilities, because he is easy to take care of, and is also good company.

We are not 100% sure how he is around other dogs. We do know he shared a room with a senior cocker spaniel who was constantly fussing at him, and he completely disregarded her altogether. We also know he has been non-reactive to other dogs in the boarding facilities, and is friendly through the fencing. However, in the past, he has been declined into daycare, due to his inability to contain his overwhelming amount of excitement. Based on his history (originally a stray, and then surrendered by a family who loved & adored him, but was financially unable to even take care of themselves), we would like to give him the honor of being the only spoiled pup in the home. Richard is a very loveable boy who cannot be overlooked. He isn't for everybody, but for the right person/people, he is more than fabulous!

RITCHEY is located in Houston, TX, and is available for transport to your area. The cost of transport is already included in the posted adoption fee.
