Hello, my name is Rip and You Lucky Dog pulled me, along with my sister, from a “kill shelter.” She just recently found her fur-ever home, and I’m hoping to follow suit. I’m around 1-years-old and my foster family thinks I’m a combo of Labrador, shepherd and, based on the shape of my head and my ears, maybe even a bit of Great Dane in there too but who really knows for sure. Based on my behavior, I’m probably part clown too. I’m currently about 60 - 65 Lbs. and I’m probably as big as I’m going to get; I’m just a long and lanky kind of guy.
I have a Happy-Go-Lucky personality. My foster dad says I should either be nick-named “Goofus-Ballicus” or “Velcro,” because those are more accurate descriptors. I’m in that slightly awkward stage where my body has grown but I’m not quite used to it and sometimes I make a misstep. I mean really, why do my legs have to be this long and my feet this big? I also tend to keep one ear up and one ear down which makes me look like I’m either perpetually laughing at something or am not quite understanding what’s going on. Either way, I’m going to follow you everywhere and hang by your side just like “Velcro”, even into the bathroom!
I’m a medium energy level dog and tend to match the level of energy that’s around me. If there’s another dog around who wants to play all day, I can keep pace. I’m also perfectly fine to have a few 10–15-minute sessions of play throughout the day and then chill. I’m willing to play fetch, or tug anytime, and love playing with both humans and other dogs. I also love chase games, chew toys, and ropes I can figure out how to take apart! After a good romp outside, there’s nothing better than coming into the house, lapping up a huge amount of water (with ½ of it going on the floor) and then flopping down on a cool floor. This is accompanied by all sorts of sound effects like grunts, groans, and ooomphs, and wait until you hear my audible yawns, which are hilarious! I do have a foot fetish and love to sniff toes. If you’re walking up the stairs, it’s also tons of fun to try to use my nose to pop your shoe off.
My foster dad works from home a few times per week, and when he does, I’m lying right next to him. He usually has interesting calls, so I just keep an eye on him casually. But I can sense when he’s getting frustrated and instinctively know to come put my head or paw on his lap, give him “that look,” which always cheers him up. When he gets up to refresh his coffee, I follow him there too. I just love being around my people. He says I’m a great partner for napping too. I either pick another spot on the couch or just curl up next to his La-Z Boy and chill with him. I love watching sports or The Voice with my family, though I’m not quite sure just how John Legend decides who to turn around for. If you let me up on the bed, I’ll often lay right by you so you can again share the love more easily. If you don’t like me on furniture, I get that hint after a few repetitions too. I am a fast learner even if I am a goofus!!
My sister tended to be the “leader of my pack” so without her around, I do look to my humans or another dog to help me figure things out. I would do best with an owner who can fill that leader role for me as I learn the ropes. I’m not passive or submissive, I just get a little confused if I don’t know what’s expected of me and the instructions aren’t clear; especially because I try so hard and REALLY want to please you, like ALL THE TIME!!
I’m a very good mix of romp & play and cuddle & snuggle. In case it hasn’t been made clear, I’m a very affectionate pup. I really enjoy being pet or scratched as often as possible. I’ll sometimes curl my body in a circle and lean into you when being scratched so you share the warmth I’ve got to give. I do enjoy kissing faces but am a bit more discreet than my 4-legged foster brother. I give 3-4 gentle and refined licks and then just hang, while he tends to think you want a whole-face wash; he just has no respect for the human face! I tend to give you my paw to show you I care, and I gently let you know when I need some affection from you.
I’m fully crate trained & house broken. I’ve got the “sit” part down pat, but I’m still working on “stay.” I don’t bolt from the house or garage if the door is accidentally left open for a sec (but please don’t tempt me), and I come back when my name is called. I do come when called in from the back yard except when there’s a bird or a plane that keeps my attention locked on them, then it may take me a minute because after all, I’m a typical teenager!! I do tend to get very excited at the possibility of a new 4-legged canine play date, so even after I “play bow,” my barking can intimidate at times but it’s only because I have a baritone voice and I’m loud. I don’t really jump on people, and I have a very soft mouth so I’m very gentle taking food from your hands.
I am food-motivated for training purposes but am not one of those dogs who eats like a pig or really fast. Adding to my goofiness, would you believe I let food you toss me hit me in the snout rather than catching it?? I’d just rather inspect it on the floor before eating it, I know I’m weird that way! I am a member of the “Neighborhood Patrol,” and will bark if other dogs are in their yards and talking. I always bark to let my family know if someone is coming to the door, a car is pulling into the driveway, or the guys who cut the grass are here.
I’m just a happy go lucky spirit hoping to find a forever family who will spend a fair amount of time with me, keep me active, be my “leader” and be entertained and patient with my goofy-ness. Like I said, I don’t need to be active all the time but I’m still young and do need my bouts of play. I also need a family who will let me show my endless love for them. People who will give me hands and faces to kiss, feet to curl up next to, maybe even someone who will sit on the floor with me so I can lay down and stretch out my whole body next to them. If they have another dog that would be awesome, especially if they’re reasonably young and can play with me. That way we can both burn our energy together. Are you my forever family??

PRIVATE MEET & GREETS: Submitting an adoption application is required before a private meet & greet will be scheduled. We will complete a pre-screening first to make sure that the dog you are interested in is a good fit for you. That way, we don't unnecessarily waste your time or the foster's time.

Our adoption fee is $300 and includes all age appropriate vaccines, spay or neuter and microchipping. All of our rescue dogs are heart worm tested annually beginning at 9 months of age, and they are kept on monthly heart worm and flea preventatives.

The breed and age included in this listing is based upon the opinion of a vet that has examined the dog. We cannot confirm the age of the dog unless the dog was born in the care of the rescue.

We are located in the metro Atlanta area. We currently do not allow out of state adoptions as a home check is required as part of the adoption process.
