Rio Australian Cattle Dog / Blue Heeler & Terrier Mix St. Paul, MN

That smile! Rio is a cuddly, sweet ball of fun. He has mastered giving hugs, enthusiastically meeting new friends and generally having a great time wherever he goes. Born in October 2023, 25#. We think he’s a mix of Cattle Dog, terrier, and “let the good times roll!”

Rio’s blanket is his most favorite toy, and he makes up all kinds of ways to play with it (see video!). Favorite way to relax is with a yummy chew toy. Highlight of each day is cuddle time with foster momma. He’s interested in the world around him and looks forward to daily walks, seeing and smelling all the things. He has an adventurous spirit and loves to be on the move as long as he’s with his people.

Rio is a smarty pants; he’s ready to learn. Leash and crate skills are coming along nicely. Can get carried away at play time and forget that the bathroom is outside; careful management solves this issue. He is learning manners, which includes how to use his mouth and teeth appropriately. He’s trying hard and would be best in a home with older kids who can help enforce rules and redirect him as needed. Obedience classes are a must to help him continue to build solid life skills.

Rio is interested in small critters like squirrels and bunnies; homes with kitties should look elsewhere. Families with a history of keeping dogs safe on leash are welcome to apply. Plays well with other dogs and is learning when it’s time to stop playing. Rio is learning to share human attention with other dogs. If his new family has another dog, a slow integration will set the right foundation for a lifetime of canine friendship.

Rio is being fostered in St. Paul, MN. His adoption fee is $450 + MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. All of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.
