Remi - In Foster Care Treeing Walker Coonhound Sparta, WI

UPDATE as of 8.8.24: Adoptable hound mix "Remi" has made incredible improvement in her foster home!

When Remi first came to us, her fear was so deep-rooted, we weren't sure where to start with helping her. She came to people for reassurance, but was terrified of other dogs and loud noises, so naturally the shelter environment was not ideal for her. A loving foster family took her in and has been working with her for several moths.
While Remi will always have a shy side to her, she has come out of her shell more than we would have imagined! She has proven that she can bond with people and trust people again (she was severely let down by her previous human who dumped her in a field after she proved to be gun shy), and she has developed a friendship with a few of her K9 foster companions! This is huge!
They're still working on Remi understanding stairs and doorways, as they have to guide her through these unknowns a little bit every day. But, that's ok! One step a time, Remi! She finds comfort in the bedroom they've given her to rest and decompress in, and then when she's outside she has learned how much fun it can be to romp with other dogs and enjoy the scenery!
Remi's foster mom wants everyone to know that Remi is an absolute gem. She's incredibly loving, and while the world is (and probably always will be) very scary to her, we know there are humans out there who understand this and have the patience to guide these babies through life. She's shown so much progress and we can't wait to see how much farther she can go with a family to call her own!

Meet Remi! Remi is approximately 1 year old and is a Treeing Walker Coonhound.

Remi came to us after having been allegedly abused, and then abandoned in a field. Unfortunately, this trauma that she endured came with a cost, and that is that she may never be fully comfortable in her surroundings.

Remi is a sensitive girl who will need someone very patient and understanding. She is taking baby steps while she's in foster care, but like most dogs who have been through something like this, she also has set-backs. After a month or so in foster care, she was finally able to go outside, but it was not without struggle.

Right now, Remi is a bit fearful of other dogs at first, but has done well with meeting (and learning to play with) her foster dog siblings!! She's not aggressive towards them, but may try to run away or hide when she's in a new environment with newer dogs. We believe small children might not be appropriate for Remi for the same reason - fast movement and loud noises are still very hard for her to navigate.

Remi is incredibly affectionate and sweet towards her humans. We think if she's in a quiet home with secure containment outside and an owner who is OK with having a dog who is a bit of an introvert, she could blossom over time! Her foster family is working with her every day to get little victories, but again, she might have set backs when she goes into another new environment.
