Meet Red

Oh, um...hi.

I’m Red. I don’t really want to talk about myself, but the humans at the kennel say its time for me to find my perfect family, so here goes nothing.

I guess we should start from the beginning. I was born on a farm, and the people on the farm were so busy with all the jobs there are little time or energy left for socializing. Me and my litter mates lived in a barn for the first year of our lives, sadly none of us were socialized. I’m told there are lots of things in the world, but I really don’t know much of the world outside a barn and the kennel I’ve been living in.

Recently the humans have put me on a leash and started taking me for walks. It was really scary at first, but the more I go for walks the more I like it! There are lots of things to smell, and the human who takes me out has been very patient with me. I am told that practice makes perfect, so the more we practice walking outside the better I get!

Besides going for walks, I like to spend time in my yard, and I’m practicing making eye contact, and something the humans call “sit”. They tell me I’m smart and that I learn really quickly...but it’s mostly because they give me lots of yummy chicken!

A word from Red’s humans: Red is a really sweet girl who will need a patient and experienced family. She will take some time but if you give her a chance your investment will be handsomely rewarded with loyalty and wiggles. Right now, Red is a little jumpy and nervous, but has made a lot of progress. The kennel is generally a stressful place, and we are confident that Red’s nervousness will melt when she gets home.

Red has no time for tomorrow, not when you both know full well there is always a ball or stick that could just as easily have been played with today. In fact, if Red was in the middle of warding off a coyote from her herd and spotted a neighbor throwing a ball, we’re pretty sure the sheep would soon be watching Red’s backside as she raced towards the fun. Shy, playful, and with a gorgeous red coat, Red is the equivalent of that girl in high school that turned all the boy’s knees into jello. Having spent her first year of life sequestered in a barn with four siblings, this sweet, active girl is in search of a patient and experienced family interested in showing her the world at her own pace. This recently spayed, 18-month-old shepherd-rottweiler mix is searching for a family which has room to run and a desire for a quiet, loving and patience family. She is just starting to get used to walking on leash, an activity often thwarted by strange and foreign things in her environment. She must have a fully fenced backyard. A family with the time and patience for this beautiful and playful girl will be handsomely rewarded with laughter and love.
