Poppy Chihuahua & Dachshund Mix Union Gap, WA

In late December, Wags to Riches received a call requesting assistance for an unknown number of dogs. Our volunteers quickly responded and made contact with the homeowner who informed us that a year and a half ago they took in and rescued a female dog who was pregnant (Poppy)...over the next 18 months Poppy had a total of THREE litters with the most recent litter only a few weeks old. Over the next week Wags took in Poppy, the newest puppies and five more dogs which were all from her previous litters...TOTALING 12 DOGS!!! Since that time, 11 of the 12 puppies/dogs have been placed up for adoption—it is now Poppy’s turn and we could not be more excited for her!!!

Let us introduce you to Poppy!!! Poppy is a female chihuahua/doxie mix who is approximately 4 years old and weighs 9 pounds. Poppy has spent the last few years taking care of her litters of puppies but she is now spayed and ready to spend the rest of her life in her forever home just relaxing and taking in the sun. As previously stated, Poppy was living the last few years in a not so ideal environment where human interaction was limited. Although she has made huge strides over the last few months while in Wags foster care, Poppy will still need a forever family who understands that it will take time (and chicken ;) for her to trust her humans. Please do not let that deter you because once she understands the love of her humans, the sky is the limit with this girl. Time and patience is key with this girl and her ideal forever family will absolutely understand that.

**Poppy will need a securely fenced in yard and she's proficient at digging!

Poppy is currently working on her doggy door skills and is making huge strides with potty training. She is great with other dogs but unknown about cats. She is also fine with children but kids over 10 would be ideal so that they can understand Poppy’s apprehension at first meet. Poppy is starting to learn how to play with toys and is known to initiate play when she wants attention. Poppy is very affectionate and sweet and loves to even climb under the covers and lick your feet if you let her. This girl is the definition of special and has persevered through a lot in her few years on this earth…that is why not just any forever home will do for this lady…she deserved nothing but the best and we are excited to help her find it!!!
