Meet Pongo

Pongo is announcing a great update - he is getting normal bladder control! I hesitate to say he is perfect, because a few accidents are probably going to happen, but he has now gone weeks without any dribbling! Yay!! He is also getting a cross country trip during the eclipse so is getting travel experience. Pongo is so happy go lucky that he will make a great dog companion. He has basic commands, but gets really excited. Life so so so fun for Pongo! He loves people, ignores cats (or tries to play with them…), is good with dogs once he has been introduced to them. He can be pushy or mouthy to new dogs and needs to be introduced slowly. He just loves to play and can’t wait to meet his new family. (4/6/24)

Pongo is charming, handsome, and lively 9 month old dalmatian boy. He was surrendered to the rescue due to urinary incontinence. After a thorough work up (donations appreciated!) no physical cause was found and the assumption is this is neurologic condition. Fortunately, he seems to be responding to medication and growing up! Yay! He still has accidents that are often large and dribbly - he can tinkle all down the hall, all down the stairs, and to the door where he asks to go outside. BUT, this is becoming less and less frequent. As I type this (his foster home) he hasn't had an accident three days. yippee! So hopefully he will be an adoptable dog soon.

Pongo's strengths - he is the snuggliest boy you could meet! He sneaks up next to people and oozes into their laps or next to them. He is happiest right next to a person. He is beautifully crate trained as well. He knows basic commands. Her ears are slightly small and when he is excited, they go sideways. It's hilarious! He does get along with other dogs, but should be introduced slowly. He can be pushy when first meeting.  He gets along perfectly with cats.

Pongo has been great with children, but he is so bouncy (hence his nickname) that he should be around older kids he won't knock over. He also counter surfs. Pongo has true dalmatian spirit when it comes to corrections (like being told to get off the counters), meaning he barely acknowledges and does it again quickly. He isn't a labrador and whoever is interested should appreciate the dalmatian laissez-faire and not be frustrated by it. Pongo is not malicious at all, he is loyal and sweet and funny, just a little ADHD like a lot of dalmatians with poor impulse control.. He deserves someone who appreciates his traits.

Pongo is not neutered and the recommendation is to leave him intact as long as he has urinary issues or at least until one year of age. We are all hopeful this is something he will grow out of, but that remains to be seen.
