Piper is a coming 8 year old spayed female as of 9/25/23 weighing approximately 46 pounds. She is up to date on Vaccs and housebroke, crate broke both open wire and airline approved crate and she loves her crate, that is her security and safe and cozy place. Crate is left open for her to hang out at her leisure. She is good on leash, no leash pulling. We recommend a martingale for her outdoor activities. (She is fed twice a day on Purina pro plan salmon and rice.) She rides well in a car while in motion, she jumps right in and settles right down, if you stop enroute she is alert and whine softly, once moving again she lies right back down and goes to sleep. Veterinarian care is easy because she is not reactive in any way, very cooperative and not nervous. Toenail trims, very cooperative! Toys. she wants to play with but she does not really know how. She shows interest but doesn’t know the follow through. Not really toy driven, but loves her outdoor walks. She loves learning tricks and doing the games for treats. Bring on the games she has already learned and excels in and be prepared to have fun introducing new ones. She avoids mud puddles so she probably is not be a water loving companion for those who like water activities. Please read all her bio because she is not good with children and there was a bite incident which will describe below and it was not her fault. It was human mishandling. Any dog could have done the same reaction she had. She is cat friendly in the foster home. She is good with most large male dogs that are not over energized if they do not get into her space and bump her. If they do she puts them in their place and corrects them. She corrects easily when humans supervise and intervene with dog intro’s. She is not good with the large intact female dog in the foster home to date and it could be just an individual dislike, gender or it could be intact versus spay. The foster female she was introduced to is super intense and controlling so maybe even a male that was intense and controlling she would not along either. She is good with small dogs that are not in your face space dogs. Needs slow introductions. We are saying no to small children and can read detail below. Maybe older respectful children supervised would be ok. Can be discussed. Long distance adoptions and transport can be discussed.

HISTORY: Originally she came from Alabama to a Wisconsin humane society when she was 6 months old. On 10/28/16 her family brought her into their home.
She was adopted by this family who were without children at that time. Later twin boy children came into the mix. That was not a good mix.

GOOD: She is not a cuddle dog but she is happy being near you and trading tricks for treats. When as to go out to go potty, she pats her front feet excitedly and woo woo’s and lets you know she is happy and generally is a happy dog. She does like to hang out with her human. Loves to do her tricks and show off for you. She is a very settled contented dog to just be near you and have her own space crate and bed. She will get in your bed if you let her. That is her special treat. She likes her owner’s scent and that is where your scent is the heaviest in a home. But she will get off if told to, if you prefer she does not hang out on your bed. When she is happy she totally lets you know. She is a very mannerly. She is in foster care with a veterinarian, who has introduced her to her menagerie of horses, goats and pot bellied pigs and she really ignores all of them and doesn’t react nor show fear or prey drive. She stood solid and just turned her head away. Very cute and very safe.

BAD: She is not comfortable with severe thunder storms, and yet she is not that bad. She is ok with rain but when bad thunder comes she goes in to her crate and puts here head under her crate bed until it passes. She really has nothing that is really really bad.

UGLY: We were asked to rehome Piper even though she was very loved by the adults, due to unruly unsupervised twin boys who were pretty rough on her and it ended up in Shock Collar training and her being forced to endure things that no dog would do and without ending up in a bite incident, which eventually it did. She did a very small bite requiring one stitch to the bridge of the nose.. to protect herself from the children who were continually hitting her with toys in the face. She took it until she had enough. So that is why we took her into foster care. So no small children in her world. Any dog would have bitten long before she finally reacted in self defense. She is crate trained and she should be left in a crate if small children are in the mix. She MIGHT be ok with respectful older children but we cannot guarantee that. Shock collars hurt and she was hurt and forced to interact with children so we will be conservative with children in her world. She has been a very good dog otherwise. And very willing to be a good good. companion.
