Meet Piper
Left abandoned by her previous owner on VAC property, Piper is a very sweet, intelligent girl. She loves other dogs and people (except she doesn't trust strangers right away). She enjoys backyard play, loves learning new tricks-especially with treats involved, and doesn't mind cuddle time. She doesn't have any destructive behaviors to speak of, however she doesn't like to be left alone and must be in constant company with other dog(s) or with humans- like most deaf dogs she suffers from separation anxiety when left without physical or visual contact. Her favorite thing to play with is peanut buttered Kongs (of course which dog DOESN'T like that?!). A good game of Tug-O-War is never passed up by her! Piper catches on very quickly to new situations and tricks/training. She knows sit, down, "no" and how to "wait" for her food. We are still working on making eye contact, however, this would best be left to her permanent care-taker. She's good with kids, but like most dogs, jumps when she gets excited (she's still a puppy on the inside, and one that can't hear you to boot!). Piper's a wonderful (temporary) addition to her foster parents' family, but deserves a forever home with somebody all her own! **it is preferred that Piper go to a home with previous experience with lots of dogs. Her potential adopters must be familiar with the extra challenges and responsibilities of taking a deaf dog in as part of their forever family.- no cats or rodents/birds.
The Valley Animal Center is open for adoption 7 days a week 10:00am-4:30pm. Every potential adopter is required to submit an Adoption Application to be considered for adoption. Once the application is approved, there is a $85.00 adoption fee for cats and an adoption fee for dogs $175.00. No cat will be allowed to leave the shelter unless they are in an approved pet carrier and no dog will be allowed to leave unless on a leash.
