Meet Pickles

Meet little feisty Pickles. He was in the pound for over 30 days waiting for rescue to save him. He couldn't be put out on the adoption floor because he was too scared and was reacting in a negative way with people, shelter staff, the vet, etc.

You see, Pickles growls. he growls when he's happy, he growls when he's mad, he growls when he doesn't know what's going on, etc. His growling is accompanied with hair raising along his back. All in all it is quite scary. But once you understand his form of communication he is a good little dog. But his new family will always need to be careful around him until he's settled for good and trusts his new family completely.

Pickles loves to play ball. He will catch a tennis ball in mid air, he will catch it on the first bounce, he will chase after it no matter how far you throw it. And he will bring it back, spit the ball out, and wait for you to throw it again....and again....and again....and again....

Pickles is fully housetrained even lets his foster mom know when he needs to go outside. How does he do this? He growls at her, of course! haha Pickles does NOT tolerate a crate and is good being left alone in the house. He finds the most comfortable spot and sleeps until you come home.

Pickles is okay around other dogs and the bigger they are the better because sometimes the play gets a bit intense. Any dog play MUST BE SUPERVISED!!!! Pickles is okay on the leash but could use some training in that area. Pickles would do best as an ONLY DOG in the family home because of his intense play at times. Having another doggy family member will be fine as long as the two dogs are never left alone together and always supervised when they are together. Pickles has 4 other dogs in his foster home and he shares the foster mom's lap with all but one of them. He also sleeps under the covers on her bed at night. Sometimes he crawls out and sleeps on top of the covers during the night.

Because of Pickles growling and defensive nature we will not allow him to go to any family with children under the age of 12. If a family has people that visit with children then Pickles must be strictly supervised or gated for safety. At least until Pickles and the child grow accustomed to each other. The foster mom's 5 year old grandson was visiting one weekend and Pickles did great with him. Pickles even slept on the couch with the little boy for a couple hours before joining his foster mom and snuggling under the covers. The little boy KNEW to not touch Pickles and to listen to any growling to leave Pickles alone. All in all, Pickles did very well as did the little boy.

Pickles loves to lick your face, and your hands, and your legs, etc. He really is a major love bug but only when he's gotten to know you.
