Persimmon was a stray who wasn't claimed. She has had some trouble accepting other dogs, but there are some she gets along with. We don't know what the deciding factor is for her, but she is quite picky. She would be a great only dog or perfect for a first-time dog family! Please, please, please consider Persimmon! She has been waiting for a family since AUGUST OF 2023!
On an outing this past spring, she did enjoy the company of Loki, one of the volunteer's dogs, and stayed close to him most of the time. She loves to go hiking and would make a great camping buddy! She is very good on a leash, unless she sees a squirrel or chipmunk. Those are too tempting to try to chase! (So no cats for Persimmon!) Persimmon is very food and treat motivated and would likely learn what you want very quickly (but remember, she has been in a shelter for over a year...give her some time...) In a vehicle, she rides very well in a crate and stays quiet and lays right down. She seems to like shallow water, and she might become more confident in water with her person by her side. Persimmon is very much a low rider and weighs only 43 pounds. She would be a lot of fun and would make a great first dog!
