Schipperke/German Shepherd Dog Mix
Pepper was rescued just in time from a high-kill shelter in Texas after being surrendered due to her owner’s health. Pepper is a stunning intelligent and affectionate almost 5-year-old Schipperke-German Shepherd mix with the energy of a puppy! She adores spending time with her human family. She has excellent recall and already knows basic commands of sit and shake, and is quickly learning down, stay, and place but would thrive with more training such as advanced obedience, agility, and scent work. She loves toys and will happily empty everything out of the toy box one by one and drop them in your lap for you to play tug or fetch with. Outside she loves to play fetch and to explore and take sniff walks. She is a perfect companion in the car and loves trips to get pup cups. She has a naturally bobbed tail that is so cute when she wags it and the biggest toothy grin to express her joy when given attention.
Pepper is house-trained, crate trained, walks well on leash, attentive, has good recall. She loves to be hugged and scratched or belly-rubbed. She doesn’t bark much or seem to shed much either.
She tested ok with dogs at the shelter but due to her strong attachment to humans she may be happiest as the only dog, unless with an owner experienced in how to make slow and safe introductions. She’s probably best suited for adults or older children, rather than small children, because even though she’s petite (18 inches tall, 44 lb.) she can be jumpy when excited and getting to know you. We don’t know if she would be good around cats or other small animals given her prey drive for rabbits.
Once she learns to trust you, she will always keep you entertained and shower you with affection. She would love to be a Velcro dog whether playing outside or being your home office companion.
