Meet Penny

Penny has been in care for almost a year as Freedom figures out her medical conditions for her skin and urinary issue and we are successful in stabilizing her medical issues. Penny will have to be on lifelong specialized urinary medical food, porin and apoquel for her skin allergies and urinary/incontinences issue. It is budgeted about $400/month for the food and medications and due to her lifelong medical needs, her adoption fee will be a compassionate adoption fee. Age? 4 Breed? Mastiff X Suitable for which type of housing? (House, townhome, apartment?) detached or well sound proof housing, better with quick access to back yard Is your dog good with other dogs? Yes – selective with very barky, jumpy dogs. She does not need another dog and would ok as a solo dog. She does ok with calm, passive dogs. She has very little tolerance for jumpy, barky dogs. She is not leash reactive when walking outside. Is your dog good with cats? No Is your dog good with kids? Untested, she can be shy at times so probably 8 + and go slow Is your dog house trained? Yes, her urinary issue is under control with the meds and specialize food. Is your dog crate trained? Yes with indestructible crates and will learn to settle once she has her schedule set up. She can get out of regular wire crates. She can be penned in a separate room if needed but can scratch on the doors and baseboards initially when settling into her routine. Does your dog have any special needs? Penny has been in care for over a year as Freedom figures out her medical conditions for her skin and urinary issue as we are successful in stabilizing her medical issues. Penny will have to be on lifelong specialized medical food – Royal Canine Multiple Purpose HP and Urinary, porin and apoquel for her skin allergies and urinary issue. It is budgeted about $400/month for the food and medications and due to her lifelong medical needs, her adoption fee will be compassionate fee. Does your dog have any or display any aggression? (Toys, food or people?) Penny has very low tolerance for very jumpy and barky dogs and would want to correct them and could escalate. She is not a candidate for offleash dog parks and preferred strolls with her human. Is your dog playful? Yes but overall prefers to be a couch potato, she does like to destroy plushie toys but knows not to go after pillows Does your dog like to snuggle? YES! With her human Does your dog know basic commands? (Sit, stay...) sit, knows her name Does your dog know any special tricks? NA Does your dog like to go on walks? Loves it ? Does your dog have any fears? Being alone Does your dog have any unique traits that you have noticed whether in personality or physically? She has very cute wrinkles on her forehead especially when she has her little head tilt moment, she has very little hair and she LOVES to cuddle for warmth, I also love how stoic she can be What are the three first words that come to mind when you think of your dog? Survivor, stoic, sweet In a short paragraph, please provide any other details or a brief overview of your foster dog. Penny and her sister, Venus, were found stray in the summer of 2022 in the Lanark/Almonte area and Penny was covered in quills, from her face down to her paws. This has left a permanent scar over her right eye. This did not impact Penny’s spirit and her foster families can say she is the most loving and sweet dog – a tough survivor. However Penny does have some additional medical conditions and that is why she has been in care for a long time until Freedom’s vetting team can stabilized her issues. Penny will have to be on lifelong specialized urinary medical food, porin and apoquel for her skin allergies and urinary issue. It is budgeted about $400/month for the food and medications and due to her lifelong medical needs, her adoption fee will be a compassionate adoption fee. We believe in this tough little survivor and she still got so much love to give to the people and family that have shown her kindness. She is great with her calm/passive foster fur siblings and loves to sunbath with them on the porch – she has very low tolerance for very barky/jumpy dogs as she would want to correct them – she could do well as a solo dog. She loves her foster mom and learning to understand when her foster mom needs to go to work and would still return (though we are recommending that she is to be left in a penned space and in a well sound proofed or detached housing – Penny can be destructive when she is first settling into her schedules at home and is highly recommended that adoptive family has an indestructible crate or a penned space that can withstand some initial digging and scratching). She is housetrained as long as her medication and medical food are continued. she greets everyone with the sweetest head tilt and tail wag. Give Penny a thought if you are looking for a sweet but stoic little companion!
