Meet Penny
Wikipedia defines a Penny as, “a coin or unit of currency . . . usually of the smallest denomination.” In the United States pennies are made of copper. Our Penny is not the smallest, but at 45 lbs, she’s also not the largest. At less than a year old, you could still say she’s shiny and new. And her pretty coat is copper-colored. Penny is a 45lbs 9mos old female Retriever-mix. She is spayed, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Penny’s foster mom shares, “She's a sweet precious pup with so much love to give. She's a kind gentle soul, but her first reaction is flight. Born on the streets without proper human interactions those first few important weeks, made it hard for her to trust. She only knew to flee danger. She needs a very patient, loving, caring home with other dogs—and she needs time, a lot of it.” Penny is off to a reformative start in this foster home where she has the support of a few well-balanced dogs and a few patient and caring humans. Penny is housetrained. She has free-roam of the home with the rest of the pack. She has access to a fenced in yard via a doggy-door. Penny loves playing with the pack and with toys. If Penny wants to enter a room to be with her people and pack, is too afraid to enter on her own, she whines at the entrance and one of the dogs will go out to her. The pack really helps Penny to feel more relaxed and less-fearful. Penny is . . . Affectionate, Fearful, Joyful, Playful, Shy, Skittish, Well-behaved, Puppy-like, and . . . all this and more. She walks well with a slip harness and Martingale collar. Penny’s people are working on gaining her trust. She follows the lead of the other dogs and comes when they do. She loves toys. Her favorite chews are antlers. Penny is afraid of most everything for the first few encounters. But, with time and patience she gains trust in her surroundings and confidence in herself. “Find a penny, pick it up, all day long you’ll have good-luck!” Adopt our pretty Penny and you will not just change your luck, but hers as well.
