Meet Pegasus

Meet Pegasus, a 2 year old deaf pittie. She is a goofy girl with lots of energy. At right around 40 pounds she's a wonderful medium size! Active, but very manageable. Pegasus likes other playful dogs. She would love to have a home with another active dog to run around and play with. Don't let the fact that Pegasus is deaf scare you! Most of the time you wouldn't even realize she is. She's pretty attentive to her people so it's not too hard to get her attention. She has been learning some hand signals and already knows a few commands such as 'sit', 'lay', and 'shake'. She is smart and eager to learn! She is potty trained. She is such a loving and sweet dog and will be a wonderful companion to someone.

Pegasus has had a rough start to life and has never had much structure; therefore, like most young dogs she needs help with her manners. She does have some behaviors you must be willing to work with if you decide to add her into your family. First, she does well with other dogs, but sometimes needs slow introductions to humans. Once she warms up to you, she will forever love you. So much so, you'll think she is stuck to you like Velcro. She gives great kisses and is a champion snuggler.

Secondly, Pegasus does have some separation and confinement anxiety. She is working on her crate training and is doing better. An ideal home would have people who are home with her quite a bit. Lastly, she can be mouthy when she plays. For this reason, we recommend she goes to a home without smaller children as she doesn't understand bite inhibition with play quite yet. She'd probably do fine with older kids who are more dog-savvy. She does bark some in her kennel and when she's excited but she's relatively quiet - especially for a deaf dog. Due to the kennel barking, she wouldn't be a good fit for a home with shared walls at this time. We assure you, Pegasus is working on all these behaviors in her foster home, and has been making great strides, but will need continued training, diligence, and consistency in order for her to be the best dog she can be. She is attentive, smart, and food motivated though so would be a lot of fun for someone looking to learn more about training deaf dogs!!

We know she has her quirks, but adopting Pegasus means inviting a whirlwind of joy into your life. She's ready to bring laughter, companionship, and endless play into her forever home.
