Oscar is a smart, handsome dog and a quick learner who is praise-motivated. He has the energy of a healthy young dog and is at his best when outside playing fetch and going on long walks. He is fantastic on a leash and walks or jogs right by your side. Oscar is quickly learning commands that can be used at home or while hunting, such as “heel,” “come”, “sit”, and “free.” He is kennel- and potty-trained and has had no accidents or marking in his foster home. Oscar forms a tight bond with his main person and sticks close, showing no inclination to run off. Indoors, Oscar entertains himself chewing on bones and toys that squeak.

Oscar can be a little unsure and nervous when exposed to new people and places, so he needs slow introductions. Once introduced, he is very friendly and sweet with people. Slow and monitored introductions to other dogs is good, too, and he may need to have a separate space, especially for food. He has lived with a big dog in the past and is friendly with the big dog next door. In his foster home, he is fine with the resident small dog when outside but isn’t always good at sharing space indoors. No cats for Oscar, and he has no experience living in a home with children.

An ideal situation for Oscar would be a quiet home with no small animals and plenty of exercise and long walks. Once settled into a new home, Oscar will be a loyal and loving companion.
