My Story: Orlando was a stray found on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. He came into Pet Haven just before Thanksgiving. Orlando needed be neutered, and is now looking for his home! Orlando is still gaining weight, and is hoping to get some treats and extra food in his new home!
Hobbies: Orlando likes to hang out with people and is very interested in learning how to snuggle with you! He also enjoys having something to chew on, like a Nylabone.
Commands/Tricks: Orlando knows how to sit, and is learning lay down. He comes when you call for him. Orlando will go into his crate easily. He is also learning good behaviors that work best for living in a house, including that the “4 paws on the floor” model gets him positive feedback more than jumping up! Orlando is very food and praise motivated. He really, really wants to please you.
Crate/Potty Trained?: Orlando sleeps in his crate at night and is crated during a the workday. He has not had any accidents in the house, but he is let out regularly and on a schedule.
Activity Level (High/Medium/Low/Why): Medium. Orlando so far has not needed a walk outside in the freezing cold and is content to trot around and explore outside, and play a little in the house. When he gets too excited, he is learning that he needs to settle to get what he wants (attention, treats, etc)
Fun Things I Do/Quirks: Orlando can be a little bit of a talker – make sure you are prepared for some husky conversation!
Who I Currently Live With: Orlando is fostered with his foster mom and dad, and 3 male resident dogs. He is very responsive to praise! He also is respectful of the other dogs if they tell him to knock something off.
My Ideal Family: Orlando is a great boy! He is a diamond in the rough. His new family needs to understand that he was on his own for the majority of his life and is not used to direction or training from people. Orlando bonds VERY strongly to his people. There is nothing he likes more than affection and praise. He is learning to look to people for guidance. He is very, very sweet.
Orlando will need a family that understands the husky/working dog mentality. He also needs people who will understand that his life previous to foster care was not the best, and Orlando is still learning that he is guaranteed regular meals and he is safe and loved. Right now he can finish his food in about 5 seconds. He likely never lived inside, and is still figuring out that being in a house is AMAZING.
Orlando will make a great dog for his family. He is just so sweet and loves nothing more than being pet by someone.
Orlando will be attending Pet Haven's adoption events. His adoption fee is $320 (cash or check only) and includes spay/neuter, heartworm check, current vaccinations, and microchip and registration.
Due to post-adoption services provided, it is Pet Haven's policy to only place dogs into homes within a 60-mile radius of the Twin Cities area.
