Meet Orbit
Orbit was adopted from our Rescue at 8 weeks of age to a wonderful family with a cat and a senior small dog. Gradually Orbit started to bully and start fights with the wee boy and it became evident as he grew, that Orbit was frightening him. The family's trainer and I convinced the family to surrender him back to our Rescue, as he is typical of his breed mixes, that being dog selective with a prey drive. His Mommy Luna is exactly the same way.
Orbit was placed on Royal Canin Large Breed Puppy food for a month. We then changed his diet to Royal Canin Large Breed food where he is fed 2 cups three times a day. He has bulked up wonderfully as he has the muscular build of his Mom. His previous family had done a really great job of training him on the basic commands and our photographer was thrilled with how easy he was to photograph. He is reticent, affectionate, crate-trained, and housebroken. He still loves to play with chew toys but food is his favourite thing. He takes treats very gently from your hand.
Orbit is good with children and is good with cats. We believe he has a prey drive and is fostered in a non-feline home. We believe it best if he is the only furry family member in the home. Orbit is really good at listening and is food-motivated. He knows not to jump up and is gentle with his affection.
The ideal home is one where the family has bully experience. A family that understands and has worked with American Bulldogs is important. They are strong, intelligent, and can be stubborn. They are dog-selective and have prey drives. He can walk on a harness lead but still pulls. He loves playing outside so a family that enjoys outdoor activities, not dog parks, would really benefit him. Orbit should continue to go to obedience classes for one-on-one sessions to ensure his training is consistent and workable for his new family. His previous trainer noted how smart he was. Older children would be best if there are any in the home, so he doesn't bowl them over.
He arrived back in our care on September 30 and we had him neutered October 4.
A fully fenced yard and a dog/cat-free home are mandatory to apply for Orbit.
We thank Melissa Caron Photography for showcasing these beauties with her wonderful talent.
