Meet Oliver

***PLEASE NOTE*** This is just a courtesy post: Oliver is NOT with Farfel’s Farm & Rescue.

Please do not inquire or apply through Farfel’s — this is a courtesy post to help Oliver’s owner find him a new home. For all inquiries, please contact Neesha at neesha.regmi.schnepf@gmail.com . Oliver's rehoming fee is $150 through his current owner, Neesha.

The following is from Oliver's current family who is rehoming him:

When we adopted Oliver, we thought we were providing him a forever home because we thought we were living in our forever home. Last summer we started “permanent” research scientist jobs with federal research labs here on the Front Range. We thought we had fulfilled our dream: we attained secure, fulfilling jobs doing science for the American people, and we would live in Colorado forever with our darling animals.
However, I was fired less than a month into Trump’s administration and my partner is on the firing list at his “permanent” job going to end any day now. We’re applying for physics jobs in other countries, with Australia our target destination. Unfortunately, bringing animals to Australia is an extremely expensive and involved process that ends with them being quarantined in Australia for at least 10 days before you can take them home.

It breaks our hearts to do this but we think rehoming Oliver here in Colorado is the best path forward for him. And by starting 6 months ahead of our move, we can foster him until a new home is found.

Oliver is an adorkable 3.5 years old Chiweenie mix. He is 13 lbs. Oliver loves being with other dogs and would do best in a home with at least one other dog. Once he warms up to you, he is a sweet sofa snuggler. He has never displayed aggressive behavior towards people, but is very shy and often skittish. When we first started caring for him, he was terrified of everything, but with a mix of training, exercise, and Fluoxetine, he has relaxed significantly. He has a mellow personality: he’s always ready for a walk or for a nap. He is leash trained and knows commands like "come", "sit", "down", and "stay" (but we recommend keeping him on-leash for walks and hikes because he is easily frightened). Oliver is a love bug who mostly just loves to be loved. His awkward underbite, big eyes, and floppy ears will steal your heart.

Oliver is potty trained except when the weather is bad, he may poop/pee inside. We are perpetually crate training him to prevent accidents– whenever he is left unattended or when we are sleeping, he is in his cozy crate.

He is calm with meeting new people, especially if they are baby talking him, but can get skittish and try to hide if the people are too energetic or loud. This makes energetic kids challenging for him (but he has been OK with calm children).

Oliver would do best with experienced dog caretakers, especially someone who already has one other dog. Oliver has been on Fluoxetine since October 2024, which has significantly helped his anxiety. His adopter must be willing to continue this medication until a veterinarian determines it is no longer needed.

Oliver's anxiety is not destructive or aggressive-- he is a very mellow and friendly guy, just nervous and jumpy.

Oliver is neutered & fully vaccinated – He is in excellent health and up to date on all vet care.

Disclaimer: The dog you are interested in is a courtesy post. Farfel's Farm & Rescue often helps dogs outside our organization to find their forever homes, and these are called "courtesy posts.” By courtesy posting pets from owners and other rescues, we offer our website as a resource to help their pet gain extra exposure. The pet’s bio comes directly from the owner or rescue, and we expect them to provide accurate information, to the best of their knowledge. Farfel's Farm & Rescue in most cases has not met or evaluated these dogs, so no information about a courtesy post dog is guaranteed. We cannot accept responsibility for any injury or damages to any person or property caused by any courtesy post animals. Courtesy post pets are the sole responsibility of the owner and the adopter. In addition, Farfel's Farm & Rescue cannot take these pets in if the courtesy post adoption does not work out.
