Meet Odessa
*** Update Odessa has completed her vetting and is ready for a home of her own!
Backstory:
Get ready for the waterworks!! I know I said that we wouldn't do any more intakes but when a foster drives from SC to NC to pull an urgent dog only for the potential rescue pulling to decide to back out, you do what you can to help. We knew that she deserved more. She deserved a chance. Good fosters willing to save your behind from time to time are hard to come by, so it is honestly the least we could do. Once I saw the dog in question, the case was closed. She was not going to be spending another night in the shelter. She was not and will never spend another night on the cold, hard floor.
Meet Odessa! This sweet girl is roughly 8 years old. She was bred repeatedly throughout her life and then was dumped when she was no longer able to produce puppies for her old owners. Whether she was injured before or after her old owners gave up on her, we don't know. We don't know the extent of her past beyond the very obvious details, but we do know that the standards of care are MUCH higher now. Who knows when the last time she ate was before arriving at the shelter? She was emaciated but is now a healthy weight after a few months in the rescue. We aren't sure if she's ever felt what true love feels like, but the moment she left with her foster, she knew she was okay.
She is a fighter, if I have ever seen one. She has a few old injuries that didn't quite heal and needed to be addressed but has a clean bill of health now following surgery for a spay and a toe amputation and a stomach tack to prevent bloating. However, the most amazing part of her story is she is HEARTWORM NEGATIVE!!!!!!!
Even with all of that, she is THE sweetest girl. Despite the neglect she must have endured, she is very affectionate and loves children and calmer dogs. She has so much life left to give and would love to call you her family!
*A COMPLETED AND APPROVED APPLICATION MUST BE ON FILE BEFORE WE SCHEDULE A MEET AND GREET. THERE IS NO EXCEPTION TO THIS RULE.
