Oakley is an adorable little dog with lots of energy and of high intelligence! He is looking for an active home that will take him for walks every day. He'd love a hike off in the woods or a walk around our Greenway trails!

Oakley also needs clear rules and high expectations for behavior. In structured homes Oakley does very well, but in homes that don't particularly have rules, he fails miserably. He's a happy dog and knowing what's expected of him helps him thrive and feel safe! His nervous energy can be a bit of a challenge for his family, as he will spin in circles when excited or worried.

Oakley has some great doggie playmates and loves to run, play, and wrestle! His energy works well with most dogs. However, he can also be bossy and snippy about his space and picky about who gets to share space with him. He shares his bed with a few other dogs and snaps at others that come near.

Behavior issues: stranger danger. Will bark at new people. If they sit down and give him time to meet them on his terms, he seems to be fine. He barks on walks at other dogs. He can start squabbles with other dogs and also be the victim of sneak nips by other dogs. He spins when excited or nervous. Finally, he will nip the heels of strangers as they try to leave.

This dog attends Cary Meet and Greet events! Not all pets in our program attend every event. We do not arrange meetings with our pets, outside Meet and Greet events, without an approved application.

All HEART dogs have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated for rabies, distemper, parvo, adenovirus, and hepatitis. Some have been vaccinated for Bordatella. All are tested for heartworms and, if they test positive, have either been treated or provided alternative slow-kill treatment. Dogs are provided monthly heartworm and flea prevention. Dogs are also provided additional medical care, as needed. This care may include amputations, wound repair, treatment for skin disorders, dental care, treatment for infection and other medical needs.
