Meet Nora
Hello, my name is Nora and I am a 3 year old, gray, female Weimaraner. I came into the rescue at the end of March. My family had to surrender me and several other Weims to LWR because my Mom became terminally ill and my Dad could not take care of her and us dogs. I have been staying with my foster parents near Cincinnati since the day I was surrendered. I have been spayed, completely vaccinated, heartworm negative and on prevention, and I am in good health. My foster parents say that I am very sweet, but terribly shy. I really want to be part of the family. I follow my foster parents around like a typical Velcro Weim, but if they turn towards me I get startled and shy away. I have become very attached to my foster Dad and get very excited when he comes home from work. My tail wags and I dance around close to him, but even then, I will only let him pet me if he does not lean over the top of me. I get scared by anyone leaning over me and I will back away. Once he sits down, I will plant myself right next to him and roll over for belly rubs. I even give kisses now and then. I want you to know that I was an outside dog at my original home and was with my dog Mom and Dad and two of my dog brothers. My brothers and I were born about the time that my first Mom became ill and that is why we didn't get much attention. We were taken care of, but not socialized.
When I first came to my foster home everything scared me. That includes my foster parents, the TV, opening/closing doors, appliance noises, neighborhood noises, and just about everything was all new and scary. I have made a lot of progress but still get startled easily. Even with my foster parents I need to come to them for attention, not the other way around. If they try to come to me I get nervous and shy away. When I do get scared my reaction is always to either shy away or flop down and freeze. I have not shown any signs of becoming aggressive or fear biting at all. I want to trust and I believe I will be able to, but it will just take time and patience. My foster parents have 4 other dogs. I enjoy being part of the pack, and I get along fine with all of them. I love to join in with them when they bark or howl and run around the yard. I let them know when they annoy me from time to time, but I have never fought with any of them.
For my forever home I will need to find someone with plenty of patience. I am still working on basic things. If I have access to outside, I always do my business there but if shut in I have had an accident from time to time. I really struggle with the leash and will need help with that. When I am on the leash I get scared. I try to get away but when I realize I can't, I will sometimes flop down and become a sack of potatoes. I am positive with time I will get better. I just need to learn. I will definitely need another dog or two in the house to be my buddy and playmate. I will not do well being an only dog. Also, no cats are safe with me. You have to remember that they are small furry creatures that I was bred to hunt. A home with small children running around and making lots of noises is probably not the home for me. A more subdued home will be better for me.
My foster parents know I have a lot of love to give. It will just take me some time to get to know a new family and not be afraid. My foster mom and dad believe that I will be a wonderful member of a family that gives me the love and patience I need to get over my fears. Are you that family who will welcome me in and help me?
