Nila Mixed Breed Bend, OR

Meet Nila! This adorable young female Mexican Street Dog mix is one of 6 dogs that were rescued in Mexico near San Felipe. They'll be arriving in Bend, OR in early February with an SDH staff member. We're told that she does well around people and other dogs, but that she can be a bit shy at first. She's approximately 10 months old and around 40 pounds (medium size range). She's spayed, up to date on her shots, is microchipped and ready to go home! Although, since these pups are new to living in homes, a slow intro with people and other pets is best, and we recommend allowing a few days for her to decompress and adjust once in a new environment.

As with all young puppies and younger dogs, they can benefit from someone who's home most of the day who can tend to all of their puppy needs. Training, guidance, healthy boundary-setting and lots of continued socialization will really set these girls up for success during such a critical time in their development.

Upon their arrival, they will go into temporary foster homes located between Bend/Central Oregon and the greater Portland area until they find their new families! Foster update:

Nila is continuing to build trust in people and is still very shy, but she's a curious gal who likes to sniff around and explore. She loves being on neighborhood watch and seeing people walk by from her post on the couch. She also loves galloping around the yard in the snow but will need some help gaining confidence on a leash. She loves getting chin scratches and giving gentle licks and has been good with other dogs from what we've seen (just a little timid at first).

The first step to adopting a dog from SDH is to complete the adoption application. First click on the OUR DOGS tab up above, and then click on the orange colored "Fill out an Adoption Application here" button to start the process). Once submitted, please expect 3-5 business days or sooner for processing and to hear back from us. Once you are pre-approved, your adoption application will remain on file with us for 1 year and it can go towards multiple adoptions within that 1 year time frame before it expires.

To finalize an adoption you must sign the adoption agreement and pay the full adoption fee of $550. The adoption fee helps cover some of the expenses related to bringing this pup into our program. On average, per dog, it costs SDH between $500-$700 for vetting/medical/sterilization, transport, food and supplies, and other rescue related expenses. Rescue dogs do not transport to SDH until they are healthy, have been further medically and behaviorally evaluated per our guidelines and are ready to be adopted. All dogs are examined by a veterinarian before they arriving into our program, which includes sterilization, given standard vaccines and rabies (if age appropriate). Most dogs are sterilized before they come into our program depending on our rescue/shelter partner's available resources, however if this is not the case we will spay/neuter them once they arrive with us at our cost.

Once the adoption has been finalized, any further medical care or treatment will not be covered by SDH, unless discussed prior with our medical team. All known issues are disclosed to the best of our ability prior to finalizing the adoption.
