A Shy Sweetheart Ready to Bloom

10-11 Months Old Female Mexican Street Dog Mix ~40 lbs

Say hello to Nila, a beautiful young mixed breed girl with a soft heart and a quiet charm that's just waiting to shine. Rescued near San Felipe, Mexico, alongside five other dogs, Nila has made her way to the Pacific Northwest in hopes of finding a forever home filled with patience, love, and the space to grow into her best self.

At around 10-11 months old and 40 pounds, Nila is in that perfect stage of life-young, curious, and full of potential. She's spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and ready to begin her next chapter.

Foster Update:

Nila has made incredible progress in her short time in Bend! For the first few months she mostly wanted to hang out in her kennel and watch the world from her safe space. She would also sit on the couch but outings on leash were somewhat intimidating.

Nila has continually been gaining confidence and blossoming. She's now excited to race around in the yard with zoomies and doesn't choose to spend time in her kennel. She will probably always be a shy dog but she is cautiously interested in allowing kids and adults to approach her to pet her. She loves a gentle chin rub or having the bridge of her nose caressed. One of Nila's favorite things is to get on the bed at night and get snuggled.

If you are looking for a dog to take to loud parties with your friends, Nila is not the right dog for you. If you want a dog who will think you are the most amazing person in the world for making her feel safe, patient with helping her continue to gain confidence and will love you endlessly, Nila might be the perfect dog for you.

Nila sleeps through the night, rarely barks, walks with a slack leash and is potty trained. She She loves to get her zoomies out in the yard once or twice a day but is gentle on leash even if she hasn't worked out her energy. She's doesn't resource guard, takes treats gently and is an incredibly sweet dog who deserves the best future after her rough start in life.

If you're looking for a companion with a tender spirit and a whole lot of heart, Nila just might be the one. Submit your online adoption application through our website to meet her and start a flexible in-home adoption trial.

***Nila gains confidence and builds trust faster when there is another confident dog in the home. Bonus points if that dog is also somewhat playful. She loves having another dog to play chase or snuggle.***

Let her grow with you-will you be her hero?

steps to adopting

(OUR ADOPTABLE DOGS ARE IN SEPARATE TEMPORARY FOSTER HOMES BETWEEN BEND/CENTRAL OREGON AND THE GREATER PORTLAND AREA. THEREFORE, MEET AND GREETS ARE NOT DONE AT OUR FACILITY. TO LEARN MORE, PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR ADOPTION APPLICATION ONLINE AND OUR ADOPTION PROGRAM MANAGER WILL REACH OUT TO YOU WITH FURTHER INFORMATION ABOUR YOUR PUP'S CURRENT STATUS (MEDICAL AND ADOPTION AVAILABILITY) AS WELL AS INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO MEET YOUR NEW PUP!)

The first step to adopting a dog from SDH is to complete the adoption application. First click on the OUR DOGS tab up above, and then click on the orange colored "Fill out an Adoption Application here" button to start the process). Once submitted, please expect 3-5 business days or sooner for processing and to hear back from us. Once you are pre-approved, your adoption application will remain on file with us for 1 year and it can go towards multiple adoptions within that 1 year time frame before it expires.

To finalize an adoption you must sign the adoption agreement and pay the full adoption fee of $400. The adoption fee helps cover some of the expenses related to bringing this pup into our program. On average, per dog, it costs SDH between $500-$700 for vetting/medical/sterilization, transport, food and supplies, and other rescue related expenses. Rescue dogs do not transport to SDH until they are healthy, have been further medically and behaviorally evaluated per our guidelines and are ready to be adopted. All dogs are examined by a veterinarian before they arriving into our program, which includes sterilization, given standard vaccines and rabies (if age appropriate). Most dogs are sterilized before they come into our program depending on our rescue/shelter partner's available resources, however if this is not the case we will spay/neuter them once they arrive with us at our cost.

Once the adoption has been finalized, any further medical care or treatment will not be covered by SDH, unless discussed prior with our medical team. All known issues are disclosed to the best of our ability prior to finalizing the adoption.
