Meet Nila

Meet Nila - A Shy Sweetheart Ready to Bloom
10-11 Months Old Female Mexican Street Dog Mix ~40 lbs

Say hello to Nila, a beautiful young pup with a soft heart and a quiet charm that's just waiting to shine. Rescued near San Felipe, Mexico, alongside five other dogs, Nila has made her way to the Pacific Northwest in hopes of finding a forever home filled with patience, love, and the space to grow into her best self.

At around 10-11 months old and 40 pounds, Nila is in that perfect stage of life-young, curious, and full of potential. She's spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and ready to begin her next chapter.

Foster Update:

Nila is a gentle, shy soul who's slowly learning to trust the world around her. She enjoys observing life from her cozy couch perch, keeping an eye on the neighborhood from a safe distance. Though still cautious, she's showing signs of blossoming:

She loves chin scratches and gives the sweetest, gentle licks.

She's curious and enjoys sniffing around the yard, especially when there's snow to frolic in.

While she's still building confidence on a leash, she's showing interest and willingness to learn.

She's been good with other dogs-a little timid at first, but polite and curious.

Nila would do best in a quieter home with a patient adopter who can offer her consistency, gentle encouragement, and time to come out of her shell. A friendly, confident dog sibling may help her feel more secure and continue to build trust.

Nila may be shy now, but with your love and support, she's ready to shine.

If you're looking for a companion with a tender spirit and a whole lot of heart, Nila just might be the one. Submit your online adoption application through our website to meet her and start a flexible in-home adoption trial.

Let her grow with you-will you be her hero?

steps to adopting

(OUR ADOPTABLE DOGS ARE IN SEPARATE TEMPORARY FOSTER HOMES BETWEEN BEND/CENTRAL OREGON AND THE GREATER PORTLAND AREA. THEREFORE, MEET AND GREETS ARE NOT DONE AT OUR FACILITY. TO LEARN MORE, PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR ADOPTION APPLICATION ONLINE AND OUR ADOPTION PROGRAM MANAGER WILL REACH OUT TO YOU WITH FURTHER INFORMATION ABOUR YOUR PUP'S CURRENT STATUS (MEDICAL AND ADOPTION AVAILABILITY) AS WELL AS INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO MEET YOUR NEW PUP!)

The first step to adopting a dog from SDH is to complete the adoption application. First click on the OUR DOGS tab up above, and then click on the orange colored "Fill out an Adoption Application here" button to start the process). Once submitted, please expect 3-5 business days or sooner for processing and to hear back from us. Once you are pre-approved, your adoption application will remain on file with us for 1 year and it can go towards multiple adoptions within that 1 year time frame before it expires.

To finalize an adoption you must sign the adoption agreement and pay the full adoption fee of $400. The adoption fee helps cover some of the expenses related to bringing this pup into our program. On average, per dog, it costs SDH between $500-$700 for vetting/medical/sterilization, transport, food and supplies, and other rescue related expenses. Rescue dogs do not transport to SDH until they are healthy, have been further medically and behaviorally evaluated per our guidelines and are ready to be adopted. All dogs are examined by a veterinarian before they arriving into our program, which includes sterilization, given standard vaccines and rabies (if age appropriate). Most dogs are sterilized before they come into our program depending on our rescue/shelter partner's available resources, however if this is not the case we will spay/neuter them once they arrive with us at our cost.

Once the adoption has been finalized, any further medical care or treatment will not be covered by SDH, unless discussed prior with our medical team. All known issues are disclosed to the best of our ability prior to finalizing the adoption.
